A N N O U N C I N G :
MONROESTOCK IV
An All-Day Acoustic Guitar Experience
Saturday, October 23, 2004
Troops:
Spoke with Marion Holloway today .... I gotta say that I'm a bit disillusioned with the guy. For the *fourth* consecutive time, he has completely *failed* to live up to the "Miserly Old Coot" reputation. For the *fourth* consecutive time, he took all of 3.78 minutes to agonizingly agree to full sponsorship of yet our fourth Acoustic Guitar Workshop.
Just whaddya say to someone with such character traits anyway .. eh? Hmmmm .... well .... how about:
**** THANK YOU VERY MUCH MARION AND ALL THE CREW AT HOLLOWAY'S MUSIC !!!! ****
~~~~~~~~
So .... the date is set and that's the main ingredient to get rolling on an event. We're 70+ days out and counting .... the MOST lead time we've had yet for the organizational end of things. Plenty of time to coordinate, schedule and fine-tune to taste.
Mark those calendars! Book those flights! Book that room! Plan to start early, end late and cap off a long day of acoustic guitar indulgence with a grin!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MISC NOTES:
Accomodations: Last year, I reserved a block of rooms at the Best Western. (Was anyone displeased enough to voice comment?) The next level up is the Hampton Inn & Suites ... same general area of town, about $15 more per night. (Newer, little snazzier, inside hall corridor, etc.) Still plenty of time to decide .... meanwhile, floor is open for comments.
General Comments: Floor is open to anyone in attendance last year. Anything not right? Anything just right? Scheduling, Time Allotments, etc,?General Complaints or Kudos?
Updates, Registration, etc: I've started this new thread as the 'official' announcement and general information distribution point. Let's let this thread float and bump as needed. I'll be working in the background, will post any significant updates here also. Registration will be by email for privacy of personal info needed. I'll post that here as well when we're ready to take names and kick ... uh ... kick off the registration process.
OK ... I'll be back with more as it develops.
Hey ... thanks, sincerely, for all the encouragement and support from ALL you guys out there ... my fellow forumites!

Hey Rick!
Great news, and thanks for your hard work! I'm planning on being there again this year... the hotel was fine with me.
Looking forward to seeing everyone, too.

Great news, Rick! I'll mark my calendar - I sure plan to attend. The hotel was fine. In fact, it was cool because, if you recall, they allowed us to congregate in the lobby and jam.
Thanks to you and Marion for organizing/sponsoring.
Since you opened the floor for comments, I enjoyed the guest musicians, but it'd be nice to have a block of time dedicated to circle jamming/mingling. And keep the open mic time good 'n long. That was also fun.
I realize there are only so many hours in a day, and I have no doubt that whatever you plan will be a blast.

I agree with this... one of the best times was in the hotel the night before. Maybe we could plan something kind of late morning for just hanging out for an hour and a half sitting around... maybe in what was the amp room last time?

Rick,
I find myself in agreement with Cakes (no surprise...he's a smart fella and a nice guy).....hotel was fine, and they were very good to us. And...more open mike, open jam/mingling time would be appreciated...
and a very big thank you to Marion Holloway and his troops....we've stayed in touch and done some business with him because we appreciate his approach to guitars, Monroestock, and just cause he is good people.
My calendar is marked, We'll plan to be there Friday afternoon and leave out on Sunday (unless someone wants to do a AGF jam session/BBQ at a Monroe-ish location on Sunday).
Dining together on Saturday at someplace that we could sit together more would also be nice.
Let me know when to contact the hotel.

I'm in. Can't wait to see what is in store for this year. mw
I am really going to try and make the trip. This retirement is great. Could you e-mail me info about hotel room rates, when we need to make reservations, and driving directions. I have been told about 13 or so hours from St. Louis. Does that sound right? Maybe I should fly.

I think the open mic was the most fun part too. It might be a good idea to limit people to 3 songs, then if we have time we can cycle back through. More mingle time would be good as well. Having less strucure will make the planning easier.....right?
Just my thoughts.

I think JR should actually show up for once!!! And he should bring Lisa and Cotton right along with him. :D hahaha!!!!
I'll know in about a week if I can go. I have to decide for that weekend if I'll be heading to Las Vegas or Monroe, NC. This is really going to be a very hard decision for me. Ugh!

Not sure if I'll be able to make it this time. It's a bit of a financial stretch for me this year. I hope you all have a really great time though. I really enjoyed meeting you all last year! :)

Rebecca and Sandy...
It will be a shame neither of you can make it! However, I'll be there, now that my schedule is changing dramatically...
Ya think three guitars is too many to take?
:D

Oh, that's right! I forgot about that one. I guess I didn't realize it was a jumbo either. Sorry, Wade. Please let me know when it arrives though, ok? With pics. You'll probably post them here, but just in case I miss it..........;)
Now we better let this thread get back to Monroestock.....sorry for the detour, folks.

I'm going John see ya there! I have been involved in one project after another, I am really ready for a road trip and get away for a few days.
I am trying to talk my buddy into going. He plays banjo and he is an awesome picker. We have been working on some old Flatt & Scruggs type instrumentals and I have been wanting to try out a few tunes we have been working on.

Jim-n-virginia,
Will be great to see you again. I really enjoyed your mando playing at the jam session at my house. Hope to do it again sometime after Christmas.
Yo, Bobby. You gonna treat us to some more U2?

Troops ....
Just a general update for ya ....
I'm glad to see additional and more frequent
activity here, it's gaining momentum, eh?
Folks, we're a mere 35 days till showtime !
There won't be any significant changes in the 'general flavor' of the event as a whole. Taking cue from requested feedback, I'm not winding the spring nearly as tight as last year's workshop. There *will* be a good bit more 'jam-time' & 'Open Mic' time, as suggested.
I won't offer names of any special guests until fully confirmed. I believe Marion Holloway has a selection of prouduct reps lined up to showcase their wares and field questions.
AGF members who offer musically related products or services are certainly welcome to display and promote their wares. (Capt.Bill & J.R. Baker immediately come to mind..)
One thing I *do* need at this point is a tentative hotel room count. Please let me know now if you will need hotel accomodations and for which nights .... Friday, Saturday or both. Rather than post here, please email me directly at:
RickCrider@Gmail.com'
Please use the word 'Hotel' somewhere in the subject line so I can snag them quickly.
Additionally, anyone needing special considerations and/or assistance with any matter should drop me an email regarding same.
The floor is still open for comments, complaints, suggestions, questions, etc ... Step Right Up!!
More as it happens, good folks .... it's looking great!!
Thanks, all.
Rick
