any ohioans interested in a get-together?

Rodger

I'm interested. I'm located in NE Ohio - Munroe Falls, suburb of Akron.

Probably all that's needed is a venue and a good date for most people to attend.

We had a small get together at Wildwood Music last summer on a Sunday - a lot of fun. here's a .ink to some pics -

http://home.earthlink.net/~rkfrantz/id5.html

I organized things last year, but don't have the time this year - a daughter's wedding and other family commitments.

I think some folks from Toledo were interested in hosting last year - maybe they're still interested in hosting.

I would be embarassed for people here to hear my guitar playing but I may be interested as well.

Guess what, I also live in NE Ohio. I live in Bolivar but will be moving to Canton for school (Malone College)

I also just came back from a trip to Wildwood not too long ago. WOW. That is an amazing shop. The owners are awesome and they have some of the most amazing guitars I have ever seen.

I think anything that give me an excuse to go back to Wildwood would be great.

God Bless,

Tyler

I'd like to come, especially if it's at Wildwood.

I'll be going up there in a couple of weeks if anyone wants to get together to paly for a couple of hours, also (on a Saturday).

Peace,

Wade

Wade:

Are you going to Wildwood Sat, Sept 4? What time do you plan on getting there?

I'm about due for my quarterly visit. I'll see what the boss (wife) has planned for that weekend and let you know.

I'm in Brecksville, southern suberb of Cleveland.
There's a lot of Ohio guys here!
Count me in, I call these things JAMboree's.
We could do an outdoor thing and reserve one of the pavillions in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. I could look into it. Or Wildwood is good for me.

Turns out my new geetar will be late. It's is supposedly supposed to leave Taylor this next week around the middle/end of the week. I most likely won't be going until the week after (the 11th).

Still, it would be cool to sit and play for a couple of hours!

Let me suggest having two get-togethers this year:

* September 11 at Wildwood to help Wade "break-in" his new 615 - Wade, you get to pick the start time.

* a second one a little later in the year, nearer Toledo. Keyglass - how about you suggest the date and place?

What do you guys think?

Newbie to this forum (longtime veteran/lurker to others) and first time posting. I will follow this thread with interest. I live in Cleveland and would love to participate in such an event. My guitar playing has gravitated back towards acoustic guitar from a long love affair with amplified six strings. I am very close to ordering a very fine new guitar and will post here when I do. I know there are some fine players around these parts.

Cheers,
Ben

Well, that's a business day for Don and Marty... and short notice, but if they wanna, I'm in. I could get there by noon or so, traffic willing. If they would rather do it Sunday the 12th, that would be fine too... it's really their call, since they might be nice enough to host it in the first place, although I haven't talked to them about it. That's up to someone else...

Peace,

Wade

I set up last year's get together with Don and Marty. It was Don who suggested a Sunday last year. I hate to put them out by opening on Sunday. I guess it depends on the possible turnout and how disruptive we would be to their normnal business.

I'll try to get in touch with them this afternoon to see what they would like to do.

Ben: If you haven't been to Wildwood before, don't buy anything until you've tried their guitars.

I just finished talking with Marty... Don had an accident (he will be fine - fell off of a ladder. no broken bones, but battered and bruised.).

She felt that Saturday, Sept 11 would be fine to have some Forum folks descend on Wildwood. I don't think Don will be fully recovered to host a Sunday event by then, so Saturday is probably a good idea. Based on the response to this thread and last year's turnout, I think about 10 people will be there (not counting spouses, kids, etc that may come with the main guitar slinger-attendee).

As usual, they have a great selection of new Taylors, including ltd's., plus Martins, Larrivees, some NOS Lowdens, Bourgeouis, and many others. Just a note: if you are considering purchasing something, Wildwood is cash/check only - no credit cards. If you've never been to Wildwood, you are in for a real treat.

So, let's shoot for:
* Saturday, Sept 11, from 12Noon - ? at Wildwood Music
* bring your guitar if so inclined. She mentioned there may be the opportunity to play in the lobby of the local hotel/restaurant a bit later for those interested.
* Wildwood web site: http://www.wildwoodmusic.com/
for directions, inventory and other info.

Please reply to this thread if you can definitely attend so I can give Marty an idea of how many folks will be there. Hope you all can make it.

Ben: If you haven't been to Wildwood before, don't buy anything until you've tried their guitars.

Rodger, is that note to me? I haven't been to Wildwood, but I have heard about them from a local acoustic jazz player, Brad Bolton, whom I used to bump into from time to time (while birding actually). As it is, I live just down the streets from Heights Guitars (Cleveland Heights). I haven't spent a ton of time in the shop, but I have strong feelings about supporting a local business. Greg Styles, who owns and runs the shop has been patient with my decision making process. It's there that I noodled on and strummed different Larivees and a Taylor. I am sure, however, that a trip to Wildwood would be eye-opening for someone such as myself who has been quite focused on electrics.

Alas, my six day work week prohibits much flexibility for a get together on a Saturday. Please keep me posted on future happenings.

Cheers,
Ben

Ben:

Sorry, you won't be able to make it on a Saturday.

I understand about supporting your local music store. I thought if you had just started looking for an acoustic, Wildwood is a great place to start (and many times, finish) the journey. I haven't been to Heights Guitars - do they have a web site? I work in the Highland Heights/Mayfield area and it sounds like a place I should visit.

thanks,

Rodger

Rodger,

They don't have a website. Heights Guitars is a fine, small store. I've seen better and a lot worse. They are on Lee just a few doors north of Cedar. Easy to find. I think he has about seven or eights Larrivees on the wall right now.

Cheers,
Ben
