Ok Guys!
The date and times are confirmed!
July 24th 12:00 - 8:00
The fee for the room is $55 we can split this up, should not be a big deal. I did put down a $250 deposit so we need to take care of the place.
Here is the site - Stonebridge Ranch Community Center & Beach Club (http://www.stonebridgeranch.com/amenity_beach.asp)
We have a large indoor facility that over looks the large "Beach Club", we have volleyball, basketball, swimming, and Tennis, oh yeah also guitar playing. We can also do a cook out if anyone wants.
I will have my PA, possible drums, keyboards, electric amp, bass and bass amp. I would like to look at doing an open mic and maybe some other "stuff", here is what I have in mind!
12:00 - 1:30 Set up Meet and Greet
1:30-3:30 Jam, Goof off, etc
3:30 - 6:30 Open Mic - Live performances with all those interested performing 3 - 6 tunes. My little group "3rd Friday" would love to do 4 - 6 tunes as a "dress rehearsal" to our first gig.
6:30 - 8:00 Cookout
8:00 - 9:00 Wrap up
Feel free to invite your wives, girl friend, boy friend, husband, etc, they can be swimming or laying out or what ever while we play.
Thoughts?
Please RSVP below, I will also start putting together some chord charts or we can add to the one Steve has!

Any ideas of the format!!!Chris, the format looks great. Who is in charge of the cookout? If its a charcoal BBQ, we'll need some time to start the fire ahead of the 6:30 time.
You'll need some sign up sheets for the Open Mic, right? My guess is you should limit each to 3 songs until everyone who wants to go has gone, and then give a second round.
I'll talk to my wife (the organizer) and I'm sure she'll come up with some additional organizational ideas.
Thanks for the ideas.

I like the format too. Don't know yet if I'll be able to make it though. For beginners like me a seminar or lesson or two would be great. Steve could show how he was playing the blues shuffle from the last meeting etc. At the last gathering I was more or less just trying to keep up.
I'm still trying to talk my wife into the trip. I hope to see you all there.
P.S. If I can make it, is there anything I can bring?

What I would suggest for the BBQ is I will have charcoal and such on standby. If we decide we want to do this we can run up to Albertsons and pick up some dogs or burgers and chips. We could all chip in and go from there. The Albertson's is less than 1/2 mile away.

With respect to a clinic, I will talk to Chip and see if he wants to do a 1/2 hour or hour teaching some basic I IV V stuff and say a blues jam in A.
Thoughts?

Wow, this sounds like a really good time (not that they all aren't). :)
Donnie: you have to bring that pie again with the Kahlua; no excuses!
Seminar sounds cool, I'm always willing to expand my horizons. :)

Jeffrey, I think we would try to do something pretty basic. I'm sure we could learn allot from you!

Well, it doesn't have to be complex for you to learn something (talking about me).
As I don't often delve into the more folky / strummy stuff (well not anymore, but it's what I learned how to play on years ago believe it or not), it's fun for me because it's very different from what I normally do.
In 7 years of teaching I learned one thing for sure: no matter what the skill level of another musician, you can always learn something from them. :)

I would like to pick phuufme and jeffrey's brains on 'From the Beginning'... I've been working on that since I heard ya'll play it in San Antonio, but it's been tough sledding.

I'm not sure what song that was.
Most everything I played there short of just noodling around, I played off the cuff watching Steve for the changes. :)

For some reason, I just never forgot the fingering. I can certainly spend some time with that song. Now, for the solo, we just need to hook Jeffrey's guitar up to a synthesizer and we're there.
I know that the tab is somewhere on line, since a friend of mine learned to play it via tab, but I don't have any tab for it (since I already know it).

Hey Guys,
We practiced @ the center last night. Plenty of room, chairs, tables and everything we will need. I should have checked but I think there is a refridgerator as well.

I think it is up to you guys what you want to bring, there is an Albertson's less than a half mile away.
I'm sure someone can bring some bottled water, snacks, or whatever. I'd say lets wait on the BBQ and see what happens.
One of the things I've noticed most people forget is a music stand.
Hey All! I'm finally in Texas, just outside of San Antonio... I think I'll plan on attending. It's a little far out for planning, but as long as I'm in town that week, I'll be out of town hanging out w/ you guys. I'm pretty much a hack, but I'd love to hang out and learn. If a cookout is going to happen, we'll bring some food. Anyone in San Antonio need a ride or want to carpool?
Can't wait to meet ya'll.

If my wife ends up going, I'll be taking her car (Subaru Impreza WRX, 4 dr sedan w/ trunk) and I'm sure they'll be room for another.
But if she ends up not going, I'll likely take my car which only has room for me and a guitar (350Z) hehe :)
I live up in Canyon Lake BTW.

The wife should come, she can enjoy the "beach club"!
There is also a great mall about 5 miles away.

DaleDale, I am going up and I have room, but I have a meeting on Sunday at the Lodge at Lake Texoma from 2pm to 5pm. so, i won't be coming right back and I won't be back in San Antonio until late Sunday night. Its not a bad drive, however, maybe 5 hours.

in spite of the 'hehe' i think your wife got the best of the vehicles! [g]
i went to buy a wrx last month, but for some reason an outback sport followed me home instead. not the firebreather the wrx is, but i'm very fond of the little guy so far. a wrx next time for sure though!

I like both the cars for different reasons. The 350Z is definately more of a pure sports car; handles flatter, accelerates harder, easy to oversteer in to big nasty drifts (not that I'd know or anything :D).
The WRX is certainly quick and fun to drive, but it's a softer ride and infinitely more practical with 4 drs and a trunk (though I can fit an amazing amount of crap in the Z).
If I had to just have one car (and didn't have my F150 as well) it would either be a WRX STi or a WRX Wagon with lots of money thrown at it. ;)

JR said he would come a few weeks back, anyone heard from him? I have 5-7 local people attending!
