Wow what a week! I've been shopping for a new electric guitar this past week. Looking for something a bit bluesy and mellower than a strat. I was thinking a Les Paul or arch top would fit the bill. Checked out numerous Epiphones at 5 different shops and I came up empty. Picked up one Les Paul, the salesman said just unboxed that one, volume control dug in the finish so bad could hardly turn it. Played another, the high E string played the 3rd fret on frets 1, 2 and 3! Sheratons with screws falling out. Bad cables, blown amps. Man, how do these people expect to sell this stuff! This covered guitars up to $800 or $900.

Just had to vent! :D Thanks, I feel better now.

The good news is, as I was browsing thru all the Fenders on my second visit to one shop, I stumbled on a Fender Special Edition Telecaster FMT. Who would have thought a Tele that was not twangy! Nice weight, split coils, contoured body (not boxy like most Tele’s), and made in Korea! I think I am going to pick this one up today. Shows you need to keep an open mind when you go shopping. :)

fenders are good guitars. even the overseas made ones. did you try ibanez hollowbodies? they have some bluesy and jazzy guitars.

I'm a Fender and Tele fan. I'm glad you found one you like. Too many stores don't take care of the instruments. Report back on the new guitar when you get it. Post some pictures if you can.

Sounds like you need something with P90's in it.

Fenders coming out of Korea, while not on a par with the American or Mexican stuff, are quite impressive...

Those wanting a Fender should also consider G&L, which was the company Leo Fender founded after selling the Fender company.

The quality seems to be several steps above recent Fenders.
