Okay folks, the TGF III in San Antonio is set for 4/17 1pm to 8pm at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Antonio!!
I was able to talk the rent down to $175, so if we can get 15 attendees, that's $12 a piece, plus food and drink cost.
If we can get Sharon some advance money to get some food, she says she'll cook for us; Sharon, how about we banty about a menu, so we can estimate some cost (if this doesn't work, we can always call and have pizza delivered).
Anyway, so what I need now is to start the official head count. Tell me, in this thread, if you are planning on coming, and how many are coming. If you are definitely coming, then let me know if you'd like to pitch in for food in advance so we can get Sharon some advance funds to buy food to cook for us.
I'll post directions to the church as we get closer to the event. Its pretty easy to find, at the intersection of two major highways, IH10 and IH410, address 7150 IH10W SA TX 78213.
More later, but please lets post our intentions to attend. I'll start - my wife and I will both be attending, so that's 2 already!!

Alrighty, sounds good. It'll be me, and for sure my mom. Maybe my dad too. So that's 2-3. I can cook pretty much anything as long as it doesn't have potatoes in it.. As I am DEATHLY... Well maybe not deathly, but pretty badly allergic to potatoes. My specialties are tex-mex, pastas, salads, gumbo(which is pretty cheap to make) and all kinds of sweets and goodies. I could come up with a pretty smashing meal for everybody for about $18 a person, I'd bet. But if that's too much, I can come up with cheaper items. Lemme know.

Sweeeeeet! Put me and the woman down Steve. That's 2 more. ;)
As for cooking and stuff, ya know one thing we gotta consider Sharon, is that the kitchen is capable of rattling off food quick enough. It could be some wimpy thing that couldn't cook a hot dog.
Steve can probably shed some light on that.
As for chipping in for food, we could either go that route (fine by me) or we could all bring produce with us (also fine by me).
I'm easy. (shutup Sharon) :ha:

If a newbewho can barely play can come, count me in. I will have to talk my wife into it but it sounds like fun. I can also help cook as that is something I like to do. Fajitas, anything grilled and desserts are my favorites.

So thats -
Phuufme (Steve) + spouse = 2
TaylorGirl (Sharon) + parent(s) = 2 or 3
Jeffrey + "the woman" = 2
Littledonnie + wife (maybe) = 1 or 2
So far that's 7 - 9. Looking good.
Sharon, $18 per person is a little steep for the food. We do have a pancake style griddle that works pretty well, and 4 electric burners. The oven is so-so. I think some tex-mex might be more economical per person cost-wise.

TG, you talking about 18 total, counting the 12 per person? or 18 for just the food?

I wasn't planning on cooking the food actually there.. I was thinking more along the lines of cook it here, reheat it there.. But whatever you guys wanna do. I can think of some pretty cheap dishes.. Like:
Chile cheese rice with chicken.. Chiles, chicken, cheese, onions, Taquila(I like to stand over the hot pot and smell the vapours. just kidding!). Seasonings, ect. Rice is cheap, chicken is cheap, chiles are pretty cheap, ect.
Or...
Lasanga, with home made tomatoe sauce, cheeses(not jesus, lol, sorry), sometimes some mushrooms or spinich, baked all golden brown. It's pretty cheap too..
Or something really, really unique. I make a very special shepherds pie. Consisting of ground pork, onions, celery, veggies, in brown sauce topped with Yuca, which is a potatoe like root vegitable that the Cubans eat. It's YUMMY.
The later two are probably a bit more pricey, but yummy all the same.
The chile cheese rice is kind of a one dish meal in itself. But I like to serve it with homemade beans.
Chicken gumbo is also a good way to good. Easy to mass produce, and fairly cheap.
Side dishes I like are green bean cassrole, salad, okra and tomatoes.
Desserts, are my big deal. Trimisu, which is a layered Italian dessert with coffee, chocolate, layered with whip cream and lady fingers. Or my famous "ranger" cookies. Chocolate raspberry triffle is also good, with layers of cake, frozen raspberrys(I have a BUTT load of them lol.) whip cream and a special raspberry liqour sauce(the alcohol is cooked out, though.).
Whatever you guys want, maybe I am being too fancy, but these are all things I've brought to pot lucks before. I can go ALOT cheaper if you guys want. Just let me know. But I really was planning on cooking here. A time saver for me, and easier for everyone else. How about you guys tell me what you can spend, plus maybe a dollar or two for my time(hate to ask it, but, ya know..)? Like just name your price. I can go a low fi, or hi fi as you want. lol.

Okay, count me in but I don't think my SO will make the trip. As far as food, I'm good with anything. As my lovely wife says, I eat like a hound. :)
I'll also need a hotel suggestion or two.
Thanks!

jas. Jas, there is a Comfort Suites right down the street (that is, the IH10 access road) from the church. I have no idea of pricing, but here is the contact info:
Comfort Suites Central
6901 I-10 W. , San Antonio, TX, US, 78213
Phone: (210) 738-1100
Fax: (210) 738-1230
There are lots of hotels/motels in the area. However, beware, I think its Fiesta week, so there may not be rooms readily available and the cost might be high. I would recommend a reservation.
I've said this before for other get-togethers so this is absolutely just a maybe but I might attend. Depends on the wife's plans, she wouldn't attend either way but I'm not sure where she is that weekend.
How far is the location from the airport?
You've got some cool folks down there, if only you could get rid of that darned long-haired hippie. ;)

I'm working on it. With as many as make up my family, it takes a while.
I know I'm 0 for 2. But 1 for 3 gets you in the Hall of Fame - in baseball, anyway.

I may not be able to come.......:(
Haven't spoken to the missus yet: (a) I've discovered that its not a great weekend as she's gone the one before and the one after BUT (b) I might go anyway, I really want to. :)
Just gotta get the courage up and as today's her birthday I'll probably save it until at least tomorrow.
Just one thought, please assure me that the dates and location aren't going to change as this involves airline tickets!!

Although nothing is certain, ever, until its history, we are schedule for that date (4/17, 1pm to 8pm) and we have reserved the space. I'm sure they will be asking me to front the rental soon.

Steve, my friend Joseph may come as well. He's a new-ish guitarist (been playing for a few years) and a woodworker (he's a cabinet maker) and really enjoys Taylors. I mentioned it to him and he's very interested and will most likely attend as well.
So that would be me + Karin + Joseph = 3 (he's 90% certain; just need to get his work schedule).

So, here is the recap as of 2/22:
Phuufme (Steve) + spouse = 2
TaylorGirl (Sharon) + parent(s) = 2 or 3
Jeffrey + Karin "the woman" + joseph = 2 or 3
Littledonnie + wife (maybe) = 1 or 2
A1rh0pper (maybe) = 0 or 1
Taygull (Chris) = 1
jhm = 1
TimB (an absolute maybe) = 0 or 1
Hondo = 0 or 1 (but shooting for the Hall of Fame average of 1 for 3!)
Shiftin = 0 or 1
Total updated = 9 to 16
I know we are just under 2 months away and &*^% happens, so this will change. Just keeping track of what all have said so far. Thanks.
Is there something we need to do regarding fronting the money? :)

-=Tim=- Thanks for the question, Tim. For the site, no don't worry about it, I'll collect something from everyone when you get here. However, I will gladly accept funds in advance to offset my out of pocket costs.
For the food, if we want Sharon to cook something, she will need some money to get the food and precook it. So, yes on the food. However, since we haven't yet decided on a menu, I would say hold off for now.
At the current rate, if we have 12 people, that will be about $15 a piece for the site. Food will likely run about $8 - $12 a piece.
So, let's budget about $25 - $30 per person, unless we can get more people. Then, of course, the cost per person goes down.
I hope I answered your question, Tim.
