After driving 3 1/2 hours back to Norfolk from the TGF Get Together I made it home by 11pm. I was SO sleepy! Should have known better than to eat a big fat steak and then drive long distance. I think I slept the last 20 miles! HAR!

Thanks Mr and Mrs Cakes for hosting and making me feel welcome and it was so nice to put faces with screen names!

And the guitars! OMG! Rooms of guitars! My fav was Tim's 12 string Presentation Series. I asked if he wanted to trade from my 810 but he declined...

Had a lot of fun watching Capt. Bill play and sing! he is quite talented and boy can he hit those high notes!

Thanks everybody for putting up with my mandolin playing, I completely neglected my guitar! To me mandolin and Taylor guitars go together like bread and butter!

I hope I do this right, heres a couple pics I took! Thanks to all!

Hey, we had some fun, didn't we? It was a really social, interesting, and diverse bunch this time. I really enjoyed the group playing/singing. Isn't that what it is all about? Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Cakes for another fine hosting job and Tacos! If anyone has pics, I can put up a page. More later.

Many, many thanks to Cakes and Mrs. Cakes for their wonderful hospitality, sharing their beautiful house, and the great food. (Angela, I went home and raved about your cake to my wife...she wants the recipe :D.)

It was great to meet so many of the TGF denizens and put names to faces. And the GUITARS...oh my. Tim's collection alone was worth the trip...imagine owning a Presentation 12, Liberty Tree, and a Taylorstock, not to mention a K14...it's nice to dream. Not to mention kevdel's incredible JDCM 12 and 814bce with the ES retrofit and Cakes' koa 12 with sunburst top...*sigh*. Some real beauties in that house.

The music was great at Open Mic, too. The Bose PAS sounded amazing for sure, and even did well handling a mic'ed guitar and vocal with one Beta 58. I personally was more impressed with the sound of the Fishman through it than the various ES systems, but YMMV. I'd buy a PAS in a heartbeat if I could afford one...it seems like the perfect solution for solo acoustic performers.

Anyway...it was a great time for sure. The drive...well, it was a bit of a haul, but worth it. I made it almost all the way there and back on one tank of gas...though my car does have a 21 gallon tank. Maybe next time we could do it closer to Baltimore? Any volunteers? :D

I talked to Mrs. kevdel and she gave the green light to have the next get together at my house!! Hope you all can make it to Maryland!! We'll make it for sometime later in the spring.

Kevin,

Great to hear that the location of the next TGF Get-together may be set.
------------

As for the BOSE, the unit definately could be used for more than a solo act. At the party we had 2 guitars and 1 mic hooked into the system. There are 2 XLR mic preamps and 2 quarter inch line-in jacks. A solution to allow more inputs would be to use a small mixer and send the L/R outputs to the BOSE PAS.

Everyone sounded great! Awsome talent.

Thank you all for coming. Mrs. Cakes and I enjoyed meeting each of you. Can't wait for the next party. What a great group of people...and the GUITARS and TALENT!!! We raised the roof pretty good there, gang.

A special thanks to SteveZ and his wife for bringing the Bose PAS and to the 'long-haulers' who drove 3+ hours to attend. (ScottyDon't, Jim_n_Virginia, and the Womacks)

I was very impressed with the bose PAS - particularly the full round bass response the sub provided. I've never heard a guitar amp that produces that kind of full rich bass from an acoustic guitar.

Bob, I have a few pictures I would like to have posted if the offer is still open.

John

PS Jim_n_Virginia - loved your mando playing during the jam session!

Looks like you guys had a great time. Maybe one day I'll be able to make one of these things, but alas on Saturday I had about 15 toddlers running through my house.

Well...I obviously had a great time. When do I not at these things??? But I am surprised that there is not ONE picture of me. I don't think that has ever happened. I may be one of the most photographed people on the forum, except this last Sat. hehehe

John...don't forget to bring your wife to the next one we have. She only seems to show up when we go to your house. ;)

How about the first pic on the last page? Look on the far left side.

Other than that, I think you were moving too fast to be caught by any shutter.

Oh no, not the case at all. I have several pics of Ms. Meinel that I'd be happy to share with the group. I'll try to get them online tonight.

And pssst...I even have one of her playing GUITAR!  :p

In fact, she might have joined me for Fall North Carolina session, but she had a prior committment. One of these times I'll 'make' (;)) her play guitar for y'all. Though she's played bass for recent years, she is a pretty good picker herself. Heck, she's the reason I started playing guitar in college in the first place - she played classical at the time and I wanted to impress her.

I think it has to do with your little 'reputation' you're trying to keep going (mentioned in the other VA party thread, thank you :D)

SEE????? Now there is proof! No one...absolutely NO ONE can say that I NEVER play guitar at these gatherings. I will repost this picture whenever I hear a "Jennifer never plays" comment. :p

Nobody ever said you never HOLD your guitar...you are ALWAYS holding a guitar...even making general strumming motions over the strings as you are clearly doing here, but do you ever PLAY?

We'll need a link to an mpeg, miss.
