Alrighty kids, listen up...

The date for the next SoCal get together is set for January 10, 2004. It'll be held in, what I'm told is, a great suite at the La Jolla Marriott, with plenty of room.

Killer58 and I are gonna' throw this little shindig (hey, I guess we're due!)

What we need first is a head count. Please e-mail me if you're going to attend, and if anyone will be joining you. This will give us an idea of what we'll need for accomodations (seating, etc.).

Second, we need to know what kind of grub you'd like to have. In the past, those 28' long sub sandwiches have been a hit, although there always seems to be quite a bit left over at the end of the day. We'd like to minimize excessive waste if we can.

So, in the same e-mail, tell me if you'd prefer sandwiches (such as we've had in the past), or perhaps pizza. Papa John's is nearby, and would be an easy call. If you have any other suggestions, or if you'd like to bring something (chips & dip, guacamole & chips, prime rib, etc.), let me know, please.

Someone had asked about getting a special rate on rooms. Don't think that's gonna' happen. Hey, it's La Jolla. They don't have to offer special rates.

Directions to the Marriott, start time, etc. will be forthcoming. I guess we won't really have an "end time", as we'll have the suite until the next day. Anyone else into pulling an all-nighter??? WOO-HOOOOO!!!!

Any questions or concerns, shoot me an e-mail...

Steve

Info me on the e-mails too please.

So far, it looks like the room will comfortably hold about 12-14 people simultaneously playing and a few spectators. More if you're willing to be "cozy". The balcony can hold another 10 easy (don't worry about weather, this is La Jolla !!!).

There is a small kitchen (small being the operative word), and a separate bedroom with two giant beds.

Not sure if a group rate is going to be available, I'm still trying to work the military angle. However, there are usually lots of weekend-rate specials in La Jolla/San Diego. More on that soon.

As Steve said, we'd really like to nail down the food/beverage issue. Please let us know your preferences soonest.

vr,
Killer

Here it is, only a scant few hours since I started the thread, and I've gotten only one e-mail??? People, people, please...

Well, at least I know that at least four of us will be there!

Sounds great, count me in. I'm good with either sandwiches or pizza. I love the fact that the grease from pizza makes my neck a lot faster. ;)

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

Count me in too, Steve. Thanks to you and Killer for putting this together. I sure did not mean to let you all down. I just have to go to San Diego that day for a cheer event.

Ah, the menu.....let's see.......how about Spinach salads topped with broiled Salmon, raspberry dressing, goat cheese and candied walnuts.........  ......okay, another one of my "nutty" moods. (Although I did eat this once in Mammoth and it was great!)

Anything's okay with me. Let us all know if you'd like us to bring side things such as chips, salsa, salad, soft drinks, other drinks ;), etc. In fact, just TELL us what to bring. That usually works best.

Looking forward to it!!

When I was working at the Hotel Del Coronado, I was taking some towels out to the beach with some guests and they asked if La Jolla was a good place to hike cliffs...except they pronounced it La Jaw-Luh.

I said it was, and in order to save them embarassment on for the remainder of their visit to San Diego, I politely said "Yeah, its a great spot, but its actually pronounced La Joe-Luh"

I froze, stopped, looked at them, pondered aloud and half rhetorically...Wait a second...what the heck am I saying? Its La Hoya!

Needless to say, I felt like an idiot, and I think they thought I was mocking them...

Oh well...

Not such a funny story, but pertinent to La Jolla at least...

I'm in, and I eat anything that isn't mushrooms.

I guess it depends on when I head to CA for NAMM. I know I'm going to be out there at least Jan. 13-19, but I may try and come out before that. It's not like I have school or anything. I just have to secure a place(s) to stay and transportation first. I'll be able to let you know as the date gets closer and I buy my plane ticket. :D

I spent a great few hours in La Jolla this past September. What a great place! I wish my travel schedule pointed me in that direction on January 10th... but it's not to be. If I were able to go, it would no doubt be expensive as I'd have to bring home one of Steve's 6-string Taylors. Have a great time all you TGF folks out there.

Jealously,

DJanzen

Hi Steve and all...

Count me in... and as you could probably tell I will eat anything!

Looking forward to hanging out again... maybe we could put together a "common songs" booklet like we discussed last time? It would make it easier to play and sing together if we each had a book with songs (lyrics and chords)...

I would volunteer to put that together, if you feel there is a need.

Thanks Steve and Killer for getting this going. I'm planning on being there.

I'm happy to bring snacks and/or drinks.

Tom, I can help with getting copies of songs for the playbook. I have a bunch of stuff already. Let me know...

Well folks, looks like we're rollin' with the punches. I've just been informed, by my esteemed colleague Killer58, that we lost the suite at the Marriott.

Now, this might have spelled certain doom for a lesser man, but not for someone who is a warrior by trade and goes by the name "Killer".

Tomorrow, Killer will be scoping out a suite at the Hyatt Aventine, only a block away from the Marriott. It's still a very good size (800 square feet), with a seperate bedroom, kitchen, etc. The downside (for me, anyway) is that there's no balcony. I'm probably going to be in the smoker-minority, so if I disappear for a few minutes, you'll find me outside by the nearest ashtray.

Details to follow...

I'm sure a touch further south wouldnt kill us either- there are plenty of options, and I have faith in guys with long hair and shaved sTaches or named killer.

Steve- Maybe it's the sign you've been looking for to quit.

Ryan- Further south??....Are you thinking Rosarito Beach, Mexico?

Here's the current list of attendees for the La Jolla event. I really hope to be adding more names to this list. And, if you've let me know that you'll be there, and I've omitted your name here, please let me know!

In instances where I was e-mailed without your Forum handle, I've just written your name:

Killer58
Steve314
Psalm150
Mike Woo
Walpow
Gardner
VFran
Rejoice Music
Cisco
Ednotes2
SteveS
Marklyn
RSimper
David Jones
Koaguitarman
Cpmusic

People I suspect will attend but haven't e-mailed me or Killer yet:

Rickshepherd

People who want to buy a 655 before they drive down from Fresno:

Iwanna655

Have I missed anyone? Let me know!

As always, I suspect this is going to be a helluva good time. And, the upside is that we won't have to clean the suite when we're done!

Hey Steve, has the location of 'The Suite' been confirmed yet?

I was just down in your area today. Passed all the off-ramps for La Jolla, El Cajon, El Centro, etc. Another fun (albeit tiring - left Simi at 4 a.m.!) day of cheerleading competition, at the San Diego Convention Center. Over 7 hours of driving in SoCal traffic, my absolute favorite pasttime!!

I hope that I will be able to manage all this on Jan. 10!

Koaguitarman (Russ) sent me an e-mail saying he would attend.

Still working the suite details, sorry it's taking sooo long, but when I give them the guest list and tell them it's a 50-guitar jam, somehow they're always booked...... :)

It's probably a good idea to mention all those guitars so they know ahead of time...Imagine if we all show up with guitars and then the mgmt says we can't play them in the suite....
Good luck killer58....and thanks again for your time and effort to set this up...keep us posted on the details....
