Dear Friends,I would find it most helpful if you would take the time to critique my playing for me,what you liked, didn`t like, etc. Please keep in mind I`m not use to playing plugged in,at the sawbriar a condenser mike is used which forces the musician to use dynamics.Did I use propper dynamic`s in playing and voice. What did you think of the uncoventional way I used on the U2 song?I used a dadgad tuning and very basic chord structer`s for that.I have been a flatpicker for 32+ years and have just in the past year or so started fingerstyle playing.

For those intrested in the Beppe Gambetta song "the old joe clark" his tape is available here http://www.homespuntapes.com/prodpg/prodpg.asp?prodID=137&prodType=

For those intrested in dadgad let me recomend Artie Traum`s dadgad series`s its been most helpful to me. http://www.homespuntapes.com/prodpg/prodpg.asp?prodID=868&prodType=Recent+Releases

Arties tapes and my love of open ringing chords and notes bought on from my rock days listening to Alex Lifeson (RUSH)was the inspiration behind the 2nd tune I played called "Finger Stuff",hope you enjoyed that one for sure.

Once again thanks to all of you for making a wonderful weekend for me and thanks in advance for your replies to this thread....Bobby Kiger aka cocobolo_guy

Hi Bobby,
Don't know if I can critique or not, but I do remember your playing and singing at Open Mike. I wasn't listening as a critic, but I was listening as a person who wanted to be entertained. If you intended to entertain, then you met your goal. I liked it! It was pleasing to me. You played with feeling and sang with emotion.

Nice job.

Bobby,

I thought your playing was very good. "Old Joe Clark" is a traditional tune that's really popular with Appalachian fiddlers and bluegrass players. I've heard Steve Baughman do a clawhammer/frailing version, and I think Beppe's version is just as cool. You did a really nice job with it--good dynamics, articulation, etc. I never would have guessed you were relatively new to fingerstyle. :)

I think you did a great job. I like, as we've discussed in the past, to hear things done acoustically in a new way...I thought the U2 was great..it reminded me that I should have planned a better set..

on the other stuff I'm like doc....sounded good to me....and you have a good stage presense...

just remember to relax (like Stan was talking about after dinner)....I personally think it's cool to wail a little though..:D

remember, you did get called back to the stage after dinner..:)

While I am certainly not the person to critique anyone's playing, I will tell you I enjoyed yours immensely. I think you actually did more of a variety than a lot of folks that day. I always enjoy hearing popular tunes done in a different light and I liked the U2 song in that regard.
I know you once stated you liked bluegrass. I'm wondering do you ever play any popular tunes to a bluegrass sound ? Like "Hayseed Dixie" does to old rock songs.

Anyway, keep up the fingerstyle, I think you're a natural.
