Does Taylor ever have, or plan on having a gathering in the northeast? I have checked various issues of Wood and Steel but I do not recall ever seeing anything up my way. Hey, I do not mind traveling a bit but, the closest one I have ever noticed is many hundreds of miles away. Is there any hope for us yankees??

Most of the events you read about here are organized by locals, though Taylor did sponsor the actual "Taylorstock" event in California last year. The other events you see happening around the country are organized by locals. Sometimes a music store will sponsor an event like the Monroe, NC event on Oct 25. But it takes alot of planning and promotion on the part of forum members - in this case, Rick Crider. I would say that more often than not, the events are nothing more than organized jam sessions with some food, meet and greet, and optional open mic time thrown in the mix. Find out who is within a couple hours of you and invite some folks over for an afternoon. That's all there is to it. Good luck!

Taylor does have workshops at stores in the New England area. Nothing in Rhode Island at the moment but there's some in CT, NY and MA (see below)
you should subscribe to the Calendar here: http://www.taylorguitars.com/calendar/
There was a gathering of sorts in NY city a while back! I tried to organize a gathering of forum members in MA/RI a while back, but there was little interest. I'm in Boston.
11/14, 7 p.m.
MIKE KENEALLY WORKSHOP
Falcetti Music
1755 Boston Rd.
Springfield, Massachusetts
(413) 543-1002
Mike Keneally's Taylor Guitars workshop explores unusual playing styles,
composition, and improvisation. Mike also discusses how an electric
guitarist can incorporate the rich heritage of acoustic guitar into his
work in a creative way. Joining Mike on a Taylor acoustic bass is his
longtime bassist Bryan Beller. Don't miss this incredible evening of
music!

Michael is right. Taylor does sponsor New England workshops - usually an accomplished guitar player that Taylor sends around the country to various music stores. Depending on the person or 'clinician' as Taylor calls them, they range from concerts (a la Doyle Dykes) to actual instructional clinics. While these Taylor-sponsored events are sometimes metioned here, most of the disucssion in this section of the forum refers to 'Taylor Forum' workshops which have no affiliation with Taylor directly. Not sure which you were looking for....
Enjoy.

well I am looking for anything that would be fun and informative. It would sure beat bowling!
Thanks for the info. I will check the calander.
Maybe it is time to try again to get something organized in New England. I am surprised that there was so little interest. There must be many Taylor owners in CT, RI and southern Mass who would enjoy something different to do on a Saturday.

Just as an FYI...there is a group in Rhode Island that might be of interest. The Rhode Island Songwriters Association (RISA) at http://members.aol.com/rhodysong/ is a group that is tapped into a lot that's happening in our area. In addition to their web site they've got an email newsletter (pretty informative) and a couple of online groups (not very active).
The group itself sponsors workshops, open mike features, and other events (right now they are putting together a promo CD, I believe). In any case, the members are a wealth of knowledge and the ones I've met are solid players and performers with great experience who are open and supportive of folks at all levels.
Hope this helps,
Mike
