YOSAM and others,
How does the week of the 4th (the 4th of July is on a Friday), look for a potential New Braunsfells get together. That would work great for the family here.
Let me know your thoughts.

Let me know when you find out about the condos. That weekend is usually an in-law weekend for me :( . I don't know if I'm going to miss two of these for in-laws, though!

Well, after working with the insurance company for several weeks, not giving up that their "final" offer was actually final, and with help from Tommy at Alamo Music, today I was notified that the insurance company made a reasonable offer to reimburse me for the stolen guitar. Now, I just have to decide and play a bunch of guitars!!
Maybe I will have a guitar in time for our summer South Texas II get together.

Good news! send me an email with the cost of the insurance and how much they settled for. I know I am going to want to insure the JDCM!

The insurance is really cheap, as long as the guitar is not used professionally, it can be purchased -- they are not in the business of insuring professional musicians under this policy. I guess its a little different type of risk. I'll email you the settlement details.

Sorry everyone but I am afraid I got some not so good news about the condos in New Braunfels today.Prices have gone up and policies have changed since I stayed there last.:(
They require three night minumum stay for holiday weekend.
Three times $210 PER NIGHT plus tax is $630 plus tax.
No parking for guests. No guests allowed on outside decks. This means no one could drive in for the day or drop by for a visit. They are pretty much limiting this to occupants only. I was told all these new rules are STRICTLY enforced.
Looks like people have been renting one condo and bringing the whole neighborhood.
In light of all this I have decided to cancel my New Braunfels trip.:( :( :( :(
If you want more information about the condos call Resort Accomodations at 800 990 4386.They still had 2 condos available for July 4th weekend.
Open for suggestions at this point:confused:

Those things usually have a pool and a kitchen area and a big meeting room, perfect for what we need to do. Does anyone have access to something like that?

Finding something like that available on July 4th is going to be tough.
There is nothing like that in Brenham!

We have decided to go ahead and plan something (family) for that week in New Braunsfels.
I have looked at a couple of Bed & Breafest/Inns and one of them looks great! They are expensive, $200 per night but they sleep 6. I know my wife would not be real comfortable with a "new" couple. Some of you that know each other may be.
I'm think'n about a cheaper hotel during the week and if any of ya'll wanted to do the B&D we could get it for Friday and Saturday night.
They have 2 cottages, one sleeps six the other seven. They have an outside courtyard (covered) that sounds perfect for some light jamming. We can grill or do whatever.
Let me know your thoughts. The website for the cottages is www.nbtx.com/comalinn (http://www.nbtx.com/comalinn)
They also said they would allow us to use the indoor meeting room if we needed it!
It's allot of money but it might be fun and we could have people stop by. I could probably swing one cottage for Friday and Saturday if someone wanted to do the other cottage. My wife would not be to happy about sharing a cottage but you probably wouldn't want to room with our two girls anyway!

So, any action on this lately? Are we trying to plan a summer get together somewhere in or around New Braunfels?

I guess not. I have not confirmed any reservations. I'm going to do that next week after I get my bonus check.
The same check I'm using to get my JDCM.

we have a place down that way, and I just read you boys were lookin for a place to "play". Hmmm, July 4th usually see's myself and my family poppin in down there, maybe we could rig up a "Bier Garten" and play for a bit, would have to check with the old man but he is usually pretty game.
This ain't a "tal mahal","king's ranch" ranch, but it is still pretty cool if you don't mind roughin it ( it has a little 'ol house on it under some 150 year old oak trees).
What were you boys lookin to do?

:D Hey bfuentes, glad you posted. At our last gathering at Lake Houston, we ate, talked, and played (and ate -- thanks Joe). So, that pretty much was it. It was a great time. If you have a place, and you are willing and able to "donate" it so to speak for the cause, I'm sure the rest of us could figure out about food and other stuff.

Hey,
This sounds great to me, except I'll be bringing the family and they are not really into the "hang around and play thing". Thats what I liked about a group setting that was at a lake with cabins or something like that.
The family could be swimming and doing other things. I don't know if there is any space along the Comal River or not. Maybe someone from down there can help!

There is are Corp Of Engineers group sites on Canyon Lake, but let me know, I thought we were just talking a few hours anyway, we either go to Guadalupe River State Park (about 30 mins West of New B) or to the Army Corp Parks on Canyon, we leave the the downtown, river stuff to the non-local folks lookin for a great time(and there will be a lot of them).
Great place down that way, could always do at night after everyone has had their fill of sun and fun
Note: Last year on the 4th, we had the boats, kayaks ready to go, and then it came a friggin FLOOD, splilled over the Canyon Lake spillway for the first time ever.
How many folks including kiddos are we talking about anyway? We have 190 Acres with woods, horses, cows, I have a 2 girls 8 and 9 and they are in nirvana down there.
I'll be down that way regardless :)

At Lake Houston we had maybe 15 -20 people, including spouses and guests. There were no kids. I believe Joe (The Guitarman)will have some other numbers, since a bunch of people were going to come but got scared off by the weather.
Is there an inside place to play during the day? July 4 can be really hot on people and guitars.

"Is there an inside place to play during the day? July 4 can be really hot on people and guitars."
We are talking about a 130 year old German Farm with a 2 bedroom farm house, it won't handle a bunch of people swinging guitars around(even though the windows a/c units sure feel good if it's hot outside)
As for outdoors in July, in the shade all is well, I play out with my Taylor(815ce) all the time, she is not a fragile, delicate little flower that will wilt. Don't get me wrong I know a big temperature swing is not a good thing, I always let mine acclimate to the outdoor condition for a awhile before I even open the case. I think mine actually likes it better outside, it was a tree at one time.
Sounds like outside is out.
Hope you guys can hook up something down that way
Time is running out :)

Okay, lets do it this way --
Who is interested in a South Texas get together this summer?
Say we could find a place somewhere in or between San Antonio and Austin? How does that sound?
If you are interested, let me know via this thread and also how many might come with you.
I'll do a head count and then maybe if there is interest, look for a place we could have it. I, for one, would appreciate an indoor place since its way too hot in the summer. If your opinion differs from that, and you have some place ideas, also let me know.
Thanks.
