I would love a section for nylon stringed guitars, just like we have one for electric.

I, too, would like for AGF to add a nylon string subforum.

I agree with everyone else, I think a Nylon string guitar section on this forum would be a welcomed addition.

I also think an archtop guitar section might be nice for Jazz players.

I'm afraid I have a dissenting view. I've been playing classical guitars since I was 10 and presently have never had less than two of them but I don't see the advantage of having a dedicating sub-forum to the subject of classical or nylon string guitars. The subject fits under the heading of General Acoustic Guitars Discussion. I prefer the simplicity of a minimal number of sub-forums.

I have been in the mood to try some new forums here lately. I originally thought it would dilute participation, but I've been pleased with the response on the the new forums that we've added over the last few months, and our membership and participation on the AGF has actually increased.

I'd prefer to call this - 'Classical / Nylon String Guitar'
Can someone please suggest a good, short description?

I've also been thinking about doing a classical/nylon string Acoustic Guitar Forum CD. Any interest?

JR- I think a Classical / Nylon string guitar CD would be wonderful -with all the interest in classicals in modern music it would be nice to see what our members can come up with -put me down for the first one ! i also think a classical guitar heading or sub group is a worthy task -Thank you !

Since a classical guitar is one, Nylon String Guitar Forum or Nylon String Guitar Discussion should suffice.

I think you can go with Herb's suggestion and then make sure "Classical" is included in the one-sentence description under the title.

I LOVE the idea of a classical section. I like Eric's title of "Classical Corner."

Also, the classical CD is a great idea too!

Danny

"Classical Corner" is the name of the sub-forum on Acoustic Guitar magazine's forum. Unlike what I would expect here, the regular participants are predominantly classical guitarists although there is plenty of discussion otherwise.

JR - thanks for responding!

+1 on Classical / Nylon String Guitar Discussion - "A place to discuss the joys of all things nylon from classical, jazz, flamenco to hybrids"

And yes on the nylon CD. AGF #3 sounds great and I can't wait to get around to ordering it!

"The Nylon Salon" could be a possibility.
Ideally, something short that encompasses both classical leaning, and non-classical leaning, nylon string guitar enthusiasts.

I am another who would participate in the forum and I would like to reinforce a couple of the ideas mentioned above:

1. I think the emphasis on "nylon string" rather than "classical" is good. It does not exclude pure classical, but would be inclusive for those of us who play a variety of things on nylon--jazz, latin, folk, rock, etc.

2. I would like to really be able to discuss playing rather than overemphasis on gear, i.e., what we play, how we arrange it, etc.

Yes, I like Brent's idea (and everyone else's) about having a sub-forum for nylon guitar. I just bought a Yamaha NTX900FM and love it. I searched quite a lot before pulling the trigger on this one. I just did not like the feel of the standard classical. I also do not play classical music. Such a sub-forum would give us the opportunity to talk about playing and about our gear, kinda like the Taylor Forum. michael s.

I would agree having dealt with "jazz snobs" in the past I can imagine how classical purists might be inclined to take over. However just viewing how few look at the Play sub forum compared to the others it would seem as if the board is heavily gear oriented.

J.R....I humbly suggest we keep the new nylon string subform as general as possible, allowing discussion of all aspects of nylon string guitars, e.g., guitars, music, performance, technique, amplification, etc.

Here's my shot at a name and short description:

Strictly Nylon

"A place for discussion related to nylon string guitars and gear, music styles well-suited for nylon stings, and technique/performance specific to nylon string guitar music."

The Spanish Connection would be a great name for the subforum. This would include all classical, flamenco, crossover, & hybrids. Is this subforum officially a GO?

I too would love to see a sub-forum for nylon string guitars, preferably one kept fairly general - classical, jazz, folk, gear, playing tips, composition, etc.

I like Dognax's suggestion above: "A place for discussion related to nylon string guitars and gear, music styles well-suited for nylon stings, and technique/performance specific to nylon string guitar music."

There is one currently on the UMGF. I have learned alot on that forum. I like the AGF too. Seems to be a greater diversity in age on this forum. I think a stricty nylon section would do well here. I feel the longer we keep this thread going, the greater our chances become of getting it done.
