Alternative open chords?

Hi guys,

Does anyone know any good links to alternative open chords, e.g playing an open "D" for example in an open postion but higher up on the neck?

Just looking to get a different sound than standard shapes?

I read your post and was confused. Are you talking about inversions for chords in standard tuning, or in alternate tunings?

Sorry for the confusion, I was talking about inversions, not alternate tuning.

So for example, playing a D further up the neck, etc, but in open formations, not bar chording.

this DVD is done by Paul Baloche, and has a lot about open chords. (a lot of it involves open strings and dropping the 3rd.) He's a good teacher, too.

GuitarToolKit for the iPhone shows four inversions for D.

Below is an example of how it presents them. On the iPhone, touching each string causes it to ring so one can hear how the individual notes of the chord, an arpeggio of the chord or all strings in unison.

and 10th fret "f" form: x x 12 11 10 10. You can also play the triad with the D bass: x x 0 11 10 10

Think the OP was looking for a web resource showing alternative fingerings for all chords, not just D, and without having to bar, so some of the strings will be open/ringing/whatever. The D was just an example. Like, he probably knows that you can play an E in the "usual" open way, or as a D shape barred on 2, or a C shape barred on 4 etc. I'm at work so can't check out mmmaak's link, but knowing mmmaak, it's probably something along the right lines.

Well, I don't know a site, but I like to fool around the fretboard and find unusual open voicings - here's a couple for D:

x-x-0-7-7-x (or x-x-0-7-7-0 for Dsus2)

x-x-0-11-10-x (again open E string for D2)

10-x-0-11-10-x (as above but with lower bass note)

x-x-0-11-10-14 (real high voicing usually played as a second part can also play 12th fret on the little E for Dsus2)

heres a really cool modal one at mid-neck

x-5-0-7-7-x or play the little E open for an interesting D2 modal. You can further advance the amount of flavoring of the sus2 chord by playing
x-5-0-7-5-0
