I plan on being in Marions parking lot at 10:30 am Saturday 17th October 2009. Whoever shows up, shows up. If its hot we`ll find some shade and jam and talk. We do not have to have PA or guest artists, planned agenda or catered food or door prizes (please note I appreciated Marions and Ricks efforts to make Monroestock special and I am in no way minimalizing any of their past efforts) Gosh folks we play acoustic guitars and are friends what more do you really need than that to have a reason to get together in Monroe NC at least once a year in october. If its cold and rainy we can at least grab some coffee etc and sit eat and talk and catch up on one another. WILL MONROESTOCK LIVE ON? WILL I SEE YOU THERE? Bobby

I will be in Raleigh from September 15th to 22nd, so getting back that soon will be difficult. (Not to mention expensive since I'm now not working)
I'll see what I can do, but as we say in Jamaica, "look for me with only one eye."

I live much closer to Monroe than many (or most) of our folks, but a 7 hour round trip to sit in a parking lot or a coffee shop is still a bit of a stretch. I really would like to attend any attempt to revive Monroestock, and agree that we don't need parades and parties to have a good time playing guitars, but out of a consideration for those who travel far and sacrifice much to come to events, a parking lot in Monroe doesn't seem a step in any direction that might lead to what we all want.
But, it sure is nice to show up to welcome those who might come by. Heck, I might be one of them. It would be great to see you, Bobby, rain or shine.

Those who live close enough to come. Certainly those who live far away I understand completely for not taking a risk. But those enough who live not all that far away should make effort to come...... I want this to stay alive...I missed not having one last year and by gosh I going even if I am the only one there. If all I do is shoot the bull with Marion or his staff that will be okay to. WILL MONROESTOCK LIVE ON? WILL I SEE YOU THERE? Bobby

i talked to Marion this afternoon & due to overwhelming demands
on his time (both business & personal) & resources, it will not be
feasible for an event to be hosted by the staff at Holloway's this fall
i remember the first event back in april of 02 - it was a very small
group & everyone was able to meet in the "lobby" of the teaching
studio building. with each passing year, the gathering seemed to
take on a life of its own with more attendees. people came in from
out-of-state (& out-of-the-country) & it became a friday evening,
all day saturday (into the wee hours) & sunday morning (for some)
a lot has changed since the first gathering & perhaps even more so
within the past couple of years - people move, certain priorities
take a greater precedent & as much as it would be nice to have
things remain the same, sometimes the only thing to do is accept
change. in order to keep on keeping on, you do what you have to
there was a phenomenal turnout for the Taylor RoadShow this past
May (i believe the number was around 150 or so) & with the added
support from Barney & Monte, Taylor Guitars, Geoffrey Janes &
Southbrook Church & countless others, the event was a success &
i think it's safe to say a good time was had by all
for a good number of folks, i would assume climate control, reasonable
ambient noise levels & facilities (as well as food & water) would be
considered bare minimums - a parking lot event would probably run
into a few difficulties (including permission from Monroe Plaza's
property manager & at least an "ok" from the city of Monroe) & i
would rather avoid having Marion be put, otherwise, "on-the=spot"
the planning, work & resources for each of the MonroeStock events
has been met each time by Marion & Mary Helen & the Holloways staff -
there is a possibility that by next Spring, it may be more feasible to
consider another making the arrangements for another event but it is not
realistic to be able to put something together in just over a months time
i'm sure that Marion would very much like to have another MonroeStock
event & when it is possible for everything to come together, it will happen
i hope that ya'll will feel free to stop his shop & say "hey" the next time you
happen to be in Monroe's neck of the wood - i'll bet Marion would like that

I'm out, much as I'd like to be there. With a trip to Raleigh scheduled for next week and plans for Thanksgiving falling into place to be there again, I need at least one month in between to save up, or I won't have enough money to spoil my grandchildren on the next trip.

I will have to see if I am off that weekend. If I am off or can take off I will go since I live so close :D
On second thought, I am off of work but that is the weekend of the St. Luke Fest at my church and on the 17th the group I am play in will be playing, I don't know yet how long our slot is and at what time we go on, but if I can make it to "Monroestock" at some point I will

Hey Bobby K,
Hope all is well with you and your's.
Yeah it's been a while for me, sorry many other things have kept me busy, haven't really even held my 814CE in over a year, shameful right ?
Anyway, I love the fact that you still want to have a get together even though Marion can't swing it this year.
I have a proposal:
I would love to offer up a nice place to meet and play.
A friend of mine has a nice multi-room office in Ballantyne, only about 10 miles from Monroe.
He picks a mean Breedlove and I'm sure he'd welcome us to use the place.
Nice leather couches and chairs.
half dozen different rooms we could break off into, kitchen with 2 fridges.
Heck, I'll even stock em up with beverages and snacks.
Anyway, just thought I'd throw this out there in the event you get some more interest.
Personally, I'd just love to hear you play again.
