There's usually one around April/May out on Lake Houston somewhere, I believe.
What part of Houston are you in?

What part of Houston are you in?Correctamundo. Guitarman usually hosts a gathering at Lake Houston sometime in April or May. We've tried to have gatherings in San Antonio, but most of the Texas members are in the Dallas and Houston areas.

I'm in Houston.
Is one gathering enough? :)

I'm in Houston.
Is one gathering enough? :)Probably not, but the problem is doing the legwork to find the place, getting the commitments of people to come to jam and providing access to food for the group. So far, the amount of time doing that has run people off.
We used to have a gathering in the Dallas area in the fall, but the person who led that effort no longer participates in AGF. As I said, I tried doing one in San Antonio, but on a very few wanted to drive to SA from Dallas and Houston (where, it seems, most of the TX AGFers are).
I've driven to the Houston one each year for a decade, so that never bothers me.
So, all that said, if you are interested in hosting a gathering, I am sure there will be players who are willing to come, chip in something and jam.

Hmmm... I think the last two posts have the common theme of working together to organize it.
Let's start by getting the people that want to have a 2nd get together in this thread and then we can start dividing and conquering?

Then its food (ya gotta eat) and who brings what. In Dallas we had it once at a "bar/restaurant". We had 2 rooms to jam and eat in.

How about Sunday, November 15th?
Location.... I will have to think about that or someone else suggest something. I live in an apartment, it will be hard to fit you guys in here :D But I'm willing to go anywhere...

I live in an apartment, it will be hard to fit you guys in here :D But I'm willing to go anywhere...Well, Guitarman usually does it at the Lake Houston Marina. I'm not suggesting that. But, we'll need a place to "hang" our guitars and jam. A house; a restaurant with a closed room. A bar that has less activity during the day (although football will be going on, so that might not work). A community center. Keep thinking of places and people you know. I'm game to drive from San Antonio (and share in the cost of food, etc.) if we can get this going.

Guys,
We actually only have a Friday gig that weekend, and we might not even have choir that Sunday, so ... sounds good to me.
Like phuufme says, if there's a problem, it's going to be a venue.

I'd be interested in coming down to Houston for another get-together...the crawfish up here doesn't look as "healthy" as the ones in H-town!

That's a GREAT idea... let me ask this week.... I don't know how I didn't think about that earlier...

Alexrkstr, If they have a room that we can rent for the day, I will be more than happy to pitch in for the rental cost:D

My subdivision has a community center building. I could check and see about availability. I'm located right near Bear Creek park for outdoor playing and eating.
Clay's restaurant not far from the park also has rooms for get togethers.
Let me know if I can help.

This might work better since my apartment complex is pretty small (capacity probably 10 people with their guitars, and only one big room). I still need to check. I'll update you guys.
Either way I'm in and can pitch in to meet...

Let me know if I can help. So, if the weather is good, we'd play outside at the park? If the weather is not good, then we'd use the community center building in your subdivision? Or are these just options to discuss. If I had to choose, I'd pick the community center, if we could reserve a room. We could all pitch in for food and snacks.

Actually the park has covered pavilions in case of rain also. I'll take some pics and check on availability of the Community Center and one of the Pavilions.
At least then we'll know what these options are. I'll try to get to it this weekend.
Sure wish I knew how to play well! Think I'll be doing a lot of listening.

Finally got to the subdiision Community Center. It is available every weekend in November as of today. The room will accomodate 35 people, has refrigerator, sink, microwave. No stove. They want $250 refundable deposit and a rental cost of $40/hr.
I still have to check the Harris Co. Community Center located in an adjacent Park, which is very nice, they'll be in tomorrow.
Also took pics of both spots and of the open pavilons in the park which I'll post this weekend. One of them has a stage and lighting. The larger ones have sink and BBQ smoker pits.
I'll post more info as I get it.

Thanks for checking into it! Hopefully we can get enough people to come! With enough lead time, we should be able to get there, depending on if we have any gigs that night. We'd love to come, play a bunch of guitars and jam. These things are always mucho fun.
Thanks for digging around in Houston to look for a place.
