I've been learning songs based on tab off the internet but have come across a lot of tab that is way off - only vaguely resembling the way the original artist plays the song - and sometimes not even that.
Is there a good source for printed guitar tab/sheet music for rock and blues?

Brian,
Do you mean free tab or tab for purchase?

If you can find a source for the 'Power Tab' editor, then www.ultimate-guitar.com has very accurate tabs for most of the popular songs...for free!

I now cross reference most tabs or chord progressions I find on the net to see which is right (or at least the closest). I then also try to find someone playing the song on YouTube to see if they are fingering what I am reading...
Like you I have found a lot of mistakes (also in the lyrics accompanying the tabs).
However, I have also found mistakes in printed songbooks I have bought.
So I don't think there is a single solution to this unless you hear it direct from the writer/performer (which in most cases is impossible). So I can only suggest double or triple sourcing your tabs to see if there is a general consensus...
The sites I use for cross reference and that all have various songs include:
www.chordie.com
www.ultimate-guitar.com
http://www.heartwoodguitar.com/chords.htm
http://www.guitarnoise.com/
http://www.guntheranderson.com/v/toc.htm
I also use some more specialised sites for more specialised singers (like folk artists)...but if you ever get stuck on a particular tab, just post. As demonstrated by this (http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=161989) thread, this forum has some incredibly generous - and talented - contributors...
Good luck...
