Hi,

I'm really struggling here...

I can't work out what chords this guy is using with a capo on the 7th fret, but playing everything from the 9th fret onwards, so not using the 8th (or 1st relative to the capo)...

The song is a cover, and played by its composer, it is done with a capo on the 2nd fret and the progression is (relative to the capo):

C G Am Fmaj7 x 2 for the verse then
G Fmaj7 C G Am Fmaj7 C x3 for the chorus. It is in 3/4time.

I can play it fine capoed at 2, but even after using an online transposer, I can't figure out what chords he is playing with his capo at the 7th fret as so few of them seem like regular/open chord shapes...but some do.

Any light anyone can throw on this would be greatly appreciated. I don't have a good enough ear to know whether he is playing in standard tuning or drop D or an alternate...I think it's standard as I can get my guitar to sound somewhat like his when I capo at 7, but just can't get anywhere near being able to identify all the shapes or any of the chord names....

Thanks in advance to anyone who can look at the video and help in any way...IMHO it's a beautiful song anyway so I hope you might enjoy listening to it... Here is the link:

Best wishes to you all,

Some of the other posters would know this more readily than I, but it looks to me that he is in DADGAD. That would explain the "unusual" chord shapes. I haven't used DADGAD for awhile, so one of the other posters would need to verify that. Nice tune, btw.

Hi Rc...
It is tuned in DADGAD, and if you are not familiar with chords in DADGAD
here is a link to my website guitar page where you can download a DADGAD chart with many chord shapes for DADGAD...

DADGAD charts - click (http://www.larryjacobsen.com/Guitar%20Files.html)

If you don't want to tackle it in DADGAD it is really simple to translate to standard or Dropped D using the following chords (and they work for DADGAD too)

In relation to the capo he's playing these chords

Verse:
G | D | Em | C |

G | D | Em D | C |

Chorus
D | C | G | D |
Em | C | G | D |

then he inserts
Em D | C | G (this becomes 1st chord of the Verse on the repeat)

These are in relation to the capo to raise them all a 4th if you want to transpose it back to standard and play his chords.

This translates nicely to Dropped D...

Hope this helps.
