Subject: 2000 Guitar Players needed to break the Guinness World Record

Help us break the Guinness World Record for the Largest Guitar Ensemble. The current record is held in Germany with 1803 players. The record was set in 2007.

Luckenbach Texas, Cheatham St Warehouse and The Kerrville Folk Festival join together to support the Voices of a Grateful Nation Project. All proceeds from the Guinness World Record event will go to the project.

Here's the scoop.. The event will take place on August 23rd, 2009 in Luckenbach Texas. We need 2000 guitar players to sign up by July 1, 2009 at www.voicesofagratefulnation.org The registration fee is $10 per player. Each registered participant will receive commemorative Dog Tags, a T-shirt and of course, braggin rights. This is an historic event and can only happen in Texas. Luckenbach is the center of the universe for guitar pickers. Please help us break this world record and keep live music in Texas LIVE! The best part about this event - we are supporting our troops and their families.

We will perform 2 songs, The Luckenbach Song ( Back to the Basics of Love) and This Land is your Land. There will be lead guitars for both songs. We have to play each song for a total of 5 minutes. The event will be recorded by video and audio. By registering, you consent to being recorded.

The day will start at 12 noon with an acoustic performance on our outdoor stage. At 2pm, we will assemble on the hill between the creeks in Luckenbach and perform the songs. The record breaking party will continue thru out the day with performances from artists on the 2 disc Voices compilation.

Thank you for your support. Please register as soon as possible! www.voicesofagratefulnation.com

Well, we set the record!

There were, officially, 1,859 guitar pickers in Luckenbach TX, beating the record set in Germany last year (I think). It was an awesome sight, almost 2,000 guitar players in one place. We played the Luckenbach Song and This Land Is Your Land. Both songs had to each be 5 minutes long, so we repeated the verses several times.

If you find my facebook page, you can see a few more videos done by my band mate Mary Lou that are a bit longer than this 40 second cut.

I participated in an attempt on the record this summer in Toronto, Canada.

Unfortunately we fell short with 1623 guitarist, but it was a lot of fun, and something to remember.

Well done Texas ! well done:)

Good job phuufme!!

I remember doing something like that thirty years ago. My pals and I saw an ad for it, we went to an old theatre in Cleveland, where about 400 guitarists [electric] had shown up. The deal was, hop on stage, plug in, play Louie Louie, and hang around afterward for a free admit to a show by The Tubes later that night. So we did.

They slaved about a dozen mixers together, and ran cords all over the place to plug everyone in, going direct to the PA. I am sure the roadies were going nuts dealing with it, but I kept thinking: I can't hear myself! Oh well, I was young and dumb back then... now I'm just old and dumb...

Tell ya what, it was a real bit of people watching too; being the late 70s/ early 80s, there was lots of preening guitar slingers, punks, rockers, etc. I even had a guy walk up to me and insult my guitar! Doofus... But; overall it was a fun, odd experience, even though the Tubes were pretty meh.

The Luchenbach gathering looks well more suited to my tastes these days

Did you notice that James Burton was doing this in Louisiana the same weekend? His failed attempt got press coverage, but I didn't see anything about Luckenbach (and I live in San Antonio):hmm:.

Glad you got the record and helped a charity in the process. I would love to have been there, but my daughter's 2nd birthday took priority:D.

The Luckenbach item was covered in the SA Express-News and on mysanantonio.com. When we got there, the sponsors were talking about the Louisiana group trying, but that group new they were falling short. We thought we were gonna be short as well, but it all turned out well.
