Thought I would share some great opportunities in the Dallas area ...

Tonight: Saturday, January 17, 5:45 PM
Jim Paul Miller Memorial Bluegrass Show
Plaza Theater, Garland (on the downtown square)
Tickets $5 at the door! Bring the whole family!!!

There are 10-12 local groups playing tonight, some of which have very good credentials. Ellis County Bluegrass played the Ernest Tubb Midnight Jamboree in Nashville a few months ago ... Michael Morrison (who is now 17) has finished second the past two years in the Texas state flatpicking championship, and was fourth at Winfield 2 years ago. Mark Land is one of the top mandolin players in the state, and has played and recorded with many top names over the years. In our group tonight, we will have Mark on mandolin, and a fiddle player who is a 2-time Mid-American Irish Fiddle champion, and 2 Time Mid American Old-Time fiddle champion, and has finished as high as 4th in the nationals in Idaho. I'll be the old fat guy with bushy sideburns playing an AJ, and trying to stay out of their way! If you come to the show, be sure and say HI!

If the weather is warm enough, there will be jamming before the show on the square, or in the cafe across from the theater.

Next Saturday, January 24, 2009, 7:30p
An Evening with Claire Lynch & Jim Hurst
Sons of Hermann Hall
Tickets $12 at the door for show, $20 for show and clinic

They will be doing a clinic on vocals and guitar at 5:00, with the show starting at 7:30 ... a rare chance to see a duet show. Claire Lynch has an amazing voice, and is well known as a songwriter. She has also sung harmony on albums for many top artists ... Jim Hurst is probably the most versatile guitar player I have ever heard in person, ranging from jazz to bluegrass and everything in between. I would expect lots of jamming between the clinic and the show.

And March 6th and 7th ...
Argyle Bluegrass Festival
This is always one of the best lineups in the country, held indoors with great sound and acoustics ... but you need to get tickets ASAP ... last year they were sold out for both Friday and Saturday, and many people who had driven a couple of hundred miles were disappointed.
Also, LOTS of jamming room ... some people go and never see a show .... just jam all weekend

Feel free to PM me for more details or links about any of these shows
