I just found out about this one... here's a link (http://www.browardfolkclub.com/SpecialEvents3.htm) and the hard facts:

While we are not having a South Florida Folk Festival this year, we ARE having a one day special event the same weekend as always (Martin Luther King Day Weekend). It will be a very special day of music that the Broward Folk Club Board has worked hard to present to the public 9 continuous hours of a very diverse music and an INSIDE venue!

When: Sunday, January 18, 2009
Time: Noon until 9:00pm; the doors open at 11:00, get there early for a dynamic opening act!
Where: The Round-up, 9020 West State Road 84, Davie, FL 33324; (SW Corner of Pine Island Road & I-595) Pine Island Plaza (same plaza as Chocolate Moose).

Ticket Price - $25.00 (Children 16 or under admitted free)
We will not be accepting credit card for admission (or CD's), but there is an ATM available at the round up for CD's and/or food.

Artists / Schedule:
12:00 - 12:30 Hymn For Her
12:30 - 1:00 Community Round Up #1: Marc Durso, Ally Smith, Joe Virga

Bolded artists of special interest were subjectively selected by me :)
Going by last year's weekend fest, there's sure to be some other good acts. Not sure if we are going, as I'm not sure what's up this weekend. But I figured, send along the info for others :)

. . . 6:00 - 6:40 Ellen Bukstel and Mindy Simmons . . .
Mindy is a long-time acquaintance from Sarasota (she's semi-famous 'round these parts)
If you go, please tell her I said hi!

I had planned on going, but then received an invitation to a wedding between two kids I once had in the youth group together. Two kids in love trumps the folk concert.

On the other hand, Grant Livingston is playing Saturday night the 17th at my synagogue. Show starts at 8 PM.

Email me if you are interested in coming.

That it does!

I really don't know whether we're going. Got a call last night from a dear friend from my old church choir; their pregnancy is showing some abnormalities in the ultrasound, not to mention several other issues that put them in a high risk category... so they are having a special service at the church this Sunday afternoon. Gotta go support, they're only halfway through the pregnancy, so unfortunately, there's a lot of time left to fret and worry.

I might try and go. I'd also like to see Alejandro Escovar in Ft. Lauderdale nut that might run a little late for me.
We'll see.

If any of my Florida folk friends show up, please say hello - Pete Hennings - Pete Price - Tom Ellis - Ray Robinette.:)

I shared a bill in Floral City with Mindy Simmons in 2000, playing with an acoustic Beatles band called Glass Onion - me, Tom Ellis, & Pete Price - but I doubt seriously she would remember me nine years later.:D

Went to the 2001 South Florida Folk Festival - worked one of the smaller stages with Tom Ellis. It was amazing.

Trish, and her hubby's name is Joaquin (sheesh that's hard to spell!). She sang alto in our old choir, and Joaquin is a chef. First kid for them... it's been hard to get to this point.

Thanks for any kind thoughts, prayers, etc. :)
