i work as a graphic artist. today i was blowing time and thought, hey i wonder if i could screen print some tshirts for the forum. this is possible for 14.00 a shirt if 36 or more people sign up, possibly less if there are a lot of tshirts ordered. if there is enough interest, i will post a poll on designs. respond via email at kylec_te51@yahoo.com or by the thread.

I'd be in for 1 or 2. I'd like to have an idea of the design.

I might depending on the design and color of shirt.
I don't do white. Or any other colors that would do well at a wet t-shirt contest.

i know ill put taylor guitar forum on the left chest, classy style like the one in the upper left hand corner of the screen. i dont know what to do on back, so suggestions are open and appreciated. i dont have anything set in stone, so make a suggestion! regarding color, i think black would be cool, also an earth brown, you know what it looks like, would look cool. im thinking khaki and red color on the brown shirt, and red, white, or anything on the black. hows that? another thought is kind of an outline of a guitar on the back, email me and hopefully ill have a sketch done by tomorrow. or if someone knows how to post a pic here, maybe thatll work out.

kylec_te51,
If you do a search, you'll hopefully find the numerous designs we already came up with for t-shirts. Most of that work went into designing a shirt for commemorating the Taylorstock event. But there were a few designs from myself and J.R. that were stand-alones(not involved with TS). We didn't go ahead with the shirts for a couple of reasons(of which I can't exactly recall right now). But I do know there were copyright issues and TS was our way around them.
I totally do not mean to rain on your parade, but we've been down this road before. On our last journey, it was a dead end.

Because I did not attend Taylor Stock, I think a non TS shirt thats still related to the forum would be great!

And here is a link to the designs (http://www.taylor-gallery.com/tshirt/ts.htm)
Surely there is a way to get a shirt made! If there is I will buy 2.

Those are really nice! Any idea why they were never made?

well, i dont think we would be infringing on any of taylors copyrights. im going to do a generic guitar, not outlined like the previous one, but kind of multi colored, i have a sketch done, but the quality is not perfect yet. any thoughts on how to get around copyrights are cool with me.

If a way can be found to sort out copyright issues, I'll be in for a few shirts. Surely if it worked out it would be great source of income (along with the CD's, DVD's) to maintain the forum server, etc.
My credit card finger is itchy;)
What say you JR & Co.??

Hey Kylec.... If you did one with "Anything Goes" across the back, it could be worth a few bucks in years to come:roll:

Hey, Kyle. I appreciate your enthusiasm. I'd love to have an official forum T-shirt. Unfortunately, we can't do it at this time. Aside from the fact that we are not legally authorized, Taylor has specifically told me not to do it. Mike is correct. TaylorStock was a special occasion. I even get special permission for the forum CD's. Taylor is very careful about the use of their trademarks for good reason.
Hopefully in the future we will be able to offer a T-shirt or something.

ok lets try something else. how about anything goes on the top, good suggestion by the way, then some picture, generic guitar or something, then in our forum. that way we dont get in trouble. maybe j.r. can help us out. i had a cool idea for the back, kind of a upper half of the statue of liberty holding a guitar up instead of the flame. that would be sweet. maybe we could even set the guitar on fire. anyway, let me know what yall think and if this is possible.

on another thought
perhaps we could just say the TGF, that way taylor doesnt have their thing stolen, and it would give us an inside joke kind of. let me know if this is possible.

No. To put it bluntly, I'm not interested in trying to circumvent the legal agreement I have with Taylor, nor am I interested in appearing to "bend the rules". It will be done legally with proper authorization, or it won't be done.

"it appears the lightning bolt has been thrown by the almighty forum god"
That seems like an uncalled for remark!
Would not the better reply have been..
Thanks JR I understand your position and appreciate all your hard work having started this forum and maintaining it for all to enjoy.
Perhaps someday t-shirts will be possible.
I know that would have sounded a lot better to me.

it wasnt meant in the sense you are taking it. thats one problem with typing, you have no nonverbal communication. i simply meant it as a bit of comic relief, and an end to the whole thread. thanks jr for the help. once again, i didnt mean to anger everyone at me, but written words can often be misread.

Thanks for the support, everyone!
Kyle, I didn't take your remarks as anything but sarcastic - and I hope you didn't misunderstand mine. I obviously didn't communicate fully my position on the issue in my first response, and there's much to understand about the Forum's relationship with Taylor. I really do appreciate your enthusiasm for this and your offer to help. But I'm very firm when it comes to the forum maintaining good relations with Taylor guitars. Anything that appears to be contrary to my own set of values or the premise on which the forum was established and officially sanctioned, will be stopped immediately. That should be expected.
One thing that you have to understand about the forum and Taylor Guitars is that we are an "experiment" of sorts for them. There are decision makers at Taylor who probably would have stomped on the forum and sent their lawyers after us day one. But there are others at Taylor who aren't so pragmatic, and are willing to take a chance on something and see what happens. That's why I have the utmost respect for TJ Baden, who after a long discussion with me about Taylor's philosophies, chose to stick his neck out for us and grant us authorization to use their trademarks in the manner that we do. Do you realize that we are the ONLY known website in the world that can use Taylor's trademarks? They are very protective of their brand for good reason. And believe it or not, it's to your benefit.
I hope this gives everyone a bit better understanding. I personally believe that it's always productive and beneficial in the long-run, to follow the rules and foster a good working relationship with someone, rather than try to find ways to circumvent the rules for whatever reason. Yes, there are times when you might ask for forgiveness and not for permission, but this isn't one of them. Taylor was very specific about this matter. That said, they DID leave open the possibility that we could re-visit this issue later.

i completely see and agree with your principles and points. i am glad you took my response the way it was intended. perhaps if we're given permission someday i'll be able to give a little help. thanks again

As a major user of the forgiveness versus permission mode of decision making, I must heartily agree with our esteemed leader, J. R. For those of us who were fortunate enough to attend TS this summer, we have seen the positive results of careful and respectful relationship building.....Bob T and his folks are just great people, and besides that they build the guitars we all enjoy (love even). There is no reason to even consider pushing the envelope here.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good day!

By all means, let's do it right, J.R., but this is later. I would encourage you and whoever to explore this issue again soon.
I know TS was an incredible event, but the vast majority of Taylor's most ardent fans, TGF members, were unable to attend. A special shirt would help bind us together, expecially for these little get-toghters that are popping up. Our esprit de corps is already high, but this could amount to a "revoiced" TGF.
I geniunely appreciate those of you who work to make the Taylor Guitar Forum such an enjoyable resource and community.
