Next Sunday night, Dec 7 at the Mission City Coffee Roasting Co, I'll be featuring Larry Pattis and Fran Guidry. Both Larry and Fran are contributors here. I know Larry posted his Bay Area itinerary recently, so I hope you catch one or more of his shows. Details of this event, and a bit about Larry and Fran:

Larry Pattis will be coming through the Bay Area, traveling from his home in Oregon. Larry is a veteran performer and composer, with three CDs to his credit, including his newly released “What Tomorrow Brings.” His instrumental style combines folk and classical influences. Every now and then you can hear an echo of Pierre Bensusan, with whom Larry has studied in France. Larry has also toured with well known Celtic guitarist El McMeen, has performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and his music is often featured on NPR’s All Things Considered. I’ve been trying bring Larry down to Mission City for quite a while now, so I’m thrilled that he’s going to be able to join us.

Fran Guidry is the Bay Area’s ambassador and advocate of Hawaiian Slack Key guitar. His relaxed approach and beautiful, melodic touch is always a joy to hear, and the background he brings to the tunes brings the feel of Hawaii to life. Fran has been spending lots of time in the Islands playing with many well-known native Slack Key players, and has been frequently performing in Hawaii and California with Led Kaapana, one of the best known current Slack Key masters. Fran’s sure to play some pieces from his CD Kaleponi (Hawaiian for “California”), and will likely have some new surprises as well.

Please join us for what’s sure to be a fun night.

Sounds like an awesome evening! I've been wanting to hear Larry play live for years. Wish it was happening a bit further south!

Hey, that was some big fun. Doug has been promoting these shows at Mission City Coffee for two years and he has built it into a wonderful event. Last night the house was full and the audience was warm and engaged.

Doug brought out his new Yamamoto baritone 12 string http://www.yamamotoguitar.com/078%2012Bari.htm and played "Little Martha" on it. He used his Taylor 914?? in a high strung configuration for his "We Three Kings" arrangement. The rest of the night he played his koa cedar Ryan.

Larry had two 24" scale Woolson double tops. Cute cute cute, and gorgeous sounding. Larry really has some chops, folks, and he uses his abilities to make lovely accessible music. His latest CD was recorded on one of his Woolsons as well.

Tony Yamamoto was in the audience, so I felt bad that my own Yamamoto was home in the middle of pickup surgery. I brought my Martin and ran through a few of my favorite slack key pieces. It was sure big fun to sit between Doug and Larry and enjoy their great music up close and personal.
