Howdy Everyone, I was wondering if there are any south Texas pickers here. Country or Bluegrass. Would love to find some folks to do alittle picking with on the weekends. I,m not very good, but love to play.

I'm a bit North of you (Austin) But I've been to Palacious a few times and always enjoy it. Last time I visited with a Luthier who had a small shop in town. He gave me some tips and showed me a recent dulcimer build he had. I hope he's still there and doing well.

Howdy Danny, Nice to meet ya!! I am not sure if the Luthier is still here. I will have to check. I am hoping to locate some folks that might want to get together sometime. Not to many folks here that play, and the ones that do, play hard rock or take life way to serious. I play to have fun. I like classic country, some modern country and bluegrass. I am just a rythum (oops on spelling, I think) like to keep it simple, I always figured that 3 chord songs are great, 2 chord song are good also, but if I could find 1 chord songs that would be the best :D:D:D
Take it easy
keep on picking

Bill Hi Bill hope you find some pickers down your way. You know even a one chord song played right is not that easy. But it's fun to try and be perfect at it, even if we fall short a bit.
After 35 years of strumming I am learning some fingerstyle ....slowly. Take care, Danny

I always wondered if there were any fellow San Antonians here.
I haven't played that much over the past 6 years, but have recently been trying work the guitar back into my life. I would be up for a meet sometime. Most of my skills are quite lacking having not played much lately, so I don't know if I would be much of an assett to any kind of get together. Having said that, the love and desire is still there.

Howdy again everyone, I would be up for a get together up in San Antonio, I was raised up in Pleasanton, so I know S.A fairly well. Guit Hacker, I am prob in the same boat as you. I played when I was a kid and then stopped. Have picked it up again a few years ago. I might not be the best player around, but I just love to play.

Well, back when I played, there were a variety of bands and I don't have one specific style. Top 40 country, Christian rock, Folk-ish, Latin jazz - jack of all trades, master of NONE!

I will play along with just about any style or type of music also. I just love to play, so I can follow along, I will give anything a try. I have always wanted to sit in and try Bluegrass.

IMO, Grassers are a whole different breed, they personally scare me. There a certain amount of inhibition that comes along with bluegrass. It's fast, loud and clean al at the same time and that doesn't describe my playing at all. However, it would be fun to try and add it to my reptoire of attempted genres.

Well, if you'd like to hear what type of music we play, come out to one of our gigs. We play mostly 60s and 70s "soft" rock like Beatles, Eagles, America, James Taylor, Paul Simon, etc. We'll be at WineStyles in Stone Oak the Saturday after Thanksgiving (and at the Houston Street Fair the same day at 1pm to 1:40pm).
We'd love to have a San Antonio jam. We had one back several years ago when we were the TGF, but most of the Texas members are from Dallas and Houston, so it was sparsely attended. If we have enough SA pickers and players let's get together!

I'll sign up for a San Antonio-based jam. We've had fun going to Lake Houston and Frisco in the past, but I'll help Phuufme give it a shot.
In the interim, if you're in the area and interested, come out to one of our gigs and introduce yourselves. If you click on our website and go to our upcoming gig page, you'll find some place to come and see us.

BillSo, I guess we need to try and schedule a San Antonio/South TX AGF get together. Why don't you guys toss out a few dates in January/February that you are available.
Also, if anyone has any ideas as to where we could gather, that would be great.

Does anyone have a place we can get together and jam at? We have some equipment (mixer, speakers, monitor, mics, etc.), but we need a gathering place.
Also, I see 4 posters here. Anyone else in South TX interested? If we can find a place somewhere between San Antonio and Austin, we might get some of the Austin pickers to come as well.
I don't mind arranging it (since we'll need to select a day that we don't have a gig), but I don't have a space for it.

BillThanks! Happy New Year. If you're not up too too late tonight, and you get up in time tomorrow, our band is playing at Patty Lou's Restaurant (next to Party City) off Summit Parkway, from 11am to 2pm. We can chat about when and where we can set up a jam.

Count me in if the date allows, we should do it before it gets too warm. :)Hey stranger, good to have you comment. We are still looking for a site to jam. Anyone have any ideas?
I can think of a couple that might work;
If you want to have a casual jam you might try the Grady's BBQ at San Pedro and Jackson-Keller. We have a bluegrassish jam slow/intermediate jam there every Tuesday* night. We hold it in the main part of the restaurant. They also have a couple of private rooms that could be of use.
The Lions Field Clubhouse down on Broadway. I think it's part of the Breckenridge Park system. The Ukelele group meets there pretty routinely and there is a house concert series that runs there.
*but that might be throttled back to 1st 3rd and 5th Tuesdays now that the faster jam on 2nd 4th and 5th Tuesdays at the Grady's at Nakoma and 281 is no longer 'by invitation only'. I call the San Pedro bluegrassish because we play a larger variety of acoustic songs and tunes and it's a 'no bluegrass police' zone.

FWIW I believe there is a group that meets in the square in Fayetteville on the weekends. There is a gazebo there, good food, etc and for all who have responded this seems centrally located? I'll see if I can find any more info and get back with it!
Cheers, Will

Fayetteville is 134 miles from San Antonio, north of Columbus and east of LaGrange. It's 99.2 miles from Palacios. It's 80.6 miles from Austin and 95.4 miles from Houston. It's a nice town, friendly enough and as I said fairly centrally located. Just my $.02.

I am in if we can find a weekend that will work for everyone. I am open to any date at this time.

The last time I was in Utopia there were some guys cutting up some Texas swing in the park there. Does anyone ever get up that way with any regularity and know if that's a regular happening?
Cheers, Will
