Anyone interested in a 3-4 day Motorcycle/Guitar retreat in the West Virgnia mountains sometime Spring 2009?

I'm thinking of putting together a small retreat for motorcyclist guitartists - ride the WV mountains during the days - guitar playing during the evening and/or early morning (adjusted for weather). Ride a couple hundred miles a day - play guitar 2-3 hours a day.

If interested, please PM - thinking about no more than about 4-6 other people.

I only have two questions !

Where ?
When ?

Sounds like a great idea to me. I'll be headed that way for the hunting cabin in about two weeks. I know a good bass player up there who rides as well. Just say when.

When: I'm thnking probably early to mid May 2009 - can be adjusted

Where: We have mobile home on two acres in north central WV we use for a getaway place - about 15 miles northeast of the town of Philippi, WV - electric, water, and gas but no phone, Internet or TV (spotty cell service)

Great access to some of the best riding in WV and great peaceful place to play guitar.

Works for me.
I am usually up there the end of April and first of May any way. And that can be adjusted some, or just extended now that I am retired.

I will be just east of Buckhannon in about two weeks. We have a hunting cabin there, so I'm pretty familiar with the area you are talking about. Our cabin has the electric, but none of the rest of what you have. LOL

My Bass playing buddy lives south of town a bit, and last I checked he still had a bike too. We'll talk more as this gets closer and I'll send ya my phone no. etc.

Not a bad idea ... but how will I carry my D-35 and Thunderchief bass on my Road King?

Very carefully :) - Actually, that's why I got a CA Cargo - carry it on my back (at least for now) - still haven't found anyone to make fine motorcycle mounted guitar cases.

Carrying guitars on bikes (not to mention weather impact) is a problem - hoping that if a few folks "trailer" bikes in that there'll be ways to bring guitars - otherwise, I can look into having some available.

Well, our trailer is about 35 miles northeast of Buckhannon - so I'm sure you do know the area. I can be flexible on the dates now - so let me know what would work for you - we'll set a date and see if we can get a few other folks over the next months.

Thanks

You can count me in. I know if Ricks goes he will have enough guitars for me and him. LOL or we could go up together and haul the bikes but that might be tough with the small truck. How about it dog, how you going to get the bike and the wood up there. I figure I'll get a back pack rig for my smallest gutiar and hope it don't rain hard. That could be interesting trying to keep the guitar from blowing you off the bike. LOL I saw Prince do it in a movie but he had a solid body thrown over his shoulder not much wind resistance there.

At any rate I'm sure we could figure out some lagistics with those who drive and trail their bikes and those of us who would have to ride them there.
I have a buddy in WVA I've been meaning to visit in Charleston so maybe that would be the time to combine trips.

Well coming from Fla I will have to trailer the scoot up. The reason more than anything is the multiple use trip.
Geetars for when we want em, and a bike for the other times.
Plus my hunting gear for spring turkey season. I can't carry it all on the scooter. With or without bags all that ain't gonna fit.

BTW, my past experience up there hunting in the spring says to be prepared for ANY kind of weather you can think of.
Last year I was sweating to death on a Wed. and the next day up at Blackwater Falls it was freezing rain.

I'll check the times on the spring season and we'll work around that. Being retarded I can stay a while if need be.
Ray, I can bring an extra geetar if you want, or we can just steal one from my bass playin bud down the road. He's got PLENTY.

Glad you can make it, Stixx!

I've had the bike up to 90+ with the CA Cargo in its Access case on my back - strange thing is cleaning the bugs off the head part of the case...messy - by spring I hope to have a snap on hard case that mounts on my bikes in place of the Givi V46 top case. Without a passenger on my one bike, I can leave the top case off and strap on the Guild in its original case and ride anywhere (as long as weather is cooperative) - I've abused the poor old Guild for 35 years + so an occasional motorcyle ride is no big deal - wouldn't consider riding with any of my newer "T" guitars...

Would love to have you! Most important thing is for everyone to ride safely...I plan on varied guitar playing skills being beneficial to all. 4 to 6 is just a number I can easily accommodate in the mobile home - we could always squeeze in a few more (have an extra room on back of trailer), and we also have plenty of tent or camper space...so come on down! In a month or so I will set an exact date and put together a sign up so we can get a good head count.
