I will be out of town when the hotel reservation deadline passes, and for a bit of a guitar-related reason.
When I was a freshman in high school, my French teacher's guitarist brother was s senior. I met him just after auditioning for a school play my teacher was directing. That meeting resulted in my inclusion in a years-long series of Friday and Saturday nights playing guitar in the company of him and a group of friends several years my senior. That's where and with whom I "cut my teeth" playing the guitar. They all remain dear, albeit distant, friends. One of those was the bass player, Russ.
Russ has made a life as a lighting designer, electrician, theater technician, intellectual anarchist.... and expert sailor. No surprise, as he was always very good at everything he tried, except for the foolish skill of gladly tolerating fools. I think Russ gave me something important, in that he let me see that it could be cool to be my own person, that to be alone because of something hard for others to understand could still be a good reason to stand where you find yourself.
Anyhow, I am flying to Nassau, Bahamas in late September, hopping aboard a sailboat... and island hopping with Russ (and the lovely Lila, whom I have yet to meet) before trekking back to West Palm Beach. I won't be back in electronicland until after the expiration of the hotel room reservation deadline.
As much as I love you all.... you're on your own after Sept 27. See ya after Oct 9. Pics forthcoming!
