Greetings, all!

This coming weekend, from Thurs. night Sep. 11 through Sun. night Sep 14 (and all day Sat & Sun), you'll be able to see some of the Chicago contingent of the AGF in action for a good cause--CAPE, the Chicago Arts Partnership in Education (private charitable funding to teach the arts in Chicago Public Schools & afterschool programs).

The event is called Lilfest, and this is its sixth year. Suggested donation is $15/day ($25-35 for multi-day passes--$25 if you purchase Thurs. night at Bill's) for Fri-Sun and $10 for the preview night on Thurs. There will be three stages: Thurs and Fri night and all day and evening Sat. & Sun. at Bill's Blues & More, 1029 Davis St. Evanston (1 bl. e of Ridge, 1/4 bl. e of the Post Office and 2 bl. w. of the Metra North Line and CTA stations); and Fri night through Sun. evening at the home of host/impresaria Nancy Emrich, 711 Lake St. Wilmette. There will be an outdoor stage (fully tented, including audience area) and an indoor intimate workshop parlor as well; potluck food items (salads, baked goods, finger foods) are always welcome and you can share in the outdoor buffet.
Here's the schedule of which AGFers (and their handles) are appearing where:
Taking turns running sound at both venues: Norm Siegel (Uncle Dizzy60) and yrs. truly (Chicago Sandy).

Thursday night Sep. 11, Lilfest Preview at Bill's Blues:

Sat. Sep. 12: Bill's Blues:
4 p.m.: me (Chicago Sandy) as part of "Andina & Rich" with Stephen Lee Rich
Sat. Sep. 12: 711 Lake St:

5:15, outdoor stage: Norm Siegel (UncleDizzy60)

Sun. Sep. 13, 711 Lake St.:
6 pm., outdoors--closing the show (yup--the traditional headliner slot):
The SASS! Trio, consisting of me (Chicago Sandy), Susan (SageWoman) and Kate Early, fresh on the heels of of our triumphant 3-hr gig yesterday at the Downers Grove Farmers Market (as JimW--Jim and his ace southpaw picker wife Alicia--of "It's Upside Down and Backwards: sig file fame--can attest)

There will be other workshops, including blues harp and harmony singing--reserve at 312-371-2284 or info@lilfest.com

And we won't be the only folks playing (nor will it be only folk): you will be able to catch at various venues "The Folk Brothers" (founders of the NYC "Fast Folk" movement and veterans of the Phil Ochs memorial rounds) Jack Hardy and dulcimerist/guitarist/songwriter ("My Name Joe," "On the Road to Fairfax County") David Massengill; electric blues legend Melvin Taylor, Ed Holstein, Cooper & Nelson, Mark ("Weavermania") Dvorak, fiddler Michi Regier, Jim Fine, Bill & Kate Isles, the always fun Alte Shtiebls Klezmer Band, boogie-woogie pianist Rad Lorkovic, blues band Tremolux and rock band Conscripted---as well as a host of lesser-known but eminently discoverable and listenable Chicago-area pickers/singers/writers.

Ample on-street parking available at both locations.

Be there or be square!!!

Well done. Sandy. I was just going to log on and say something about Lilfest. Nancy Emrich pulls out all the stops and does 4 days of continuous music on multiple stages at her house and at Bill's Blues in Evanston. Here's where you go for info:

I'm lucky enough to participate in a Thursday night thing at Bill's Blues. And I'll also be helping out on Friday night in a special house concert in Nancy's home with Jack Harder, who is flying in from New York to participate in the fest.

(Remember the Beatles lyrics: "Her name was McGill, and she called herself Lil, but everyone knew her as Nancy." I think that's where Nancy Emrich got the idea for naming her Lil-fest music promotional activities.)

Any rate, there's plenty of great music on many stages the whole weekend long.

I may be able to sneak out from behind the soundboard to do a song Friday night--and I promise not to hit the "suck" button when you're on:D

A little more history about the name: Nancy has been a longtime (more than a decade) member of the Old Town School of Folk Music's Beatles Ensemble (she's their bassist). The Ensemble (some twenty+ members strong at times) has played at various Beatles tributes all across the country. It was only fitting that she'd home in on that reference in "Rocky Raccoon!"

This is just an added note that I'll be playing at Bill's Blues in Evanston on Thursday evening along with an all-star cast, including MN's fav son, Carl Franzen, and long time Chicago Folk legend, Amy Dixon-Kollar.

I'm also emceeing a song circle on Friday night at Lilfest in Wilmette with Mr. Jack Hardy as the main dude. He and David Masengill are coming in for the fest, and will be participating in the song circle. Jack's bio includes a long time NY song circle that has fostered the likes of Susanne Vega and Shawn Colvin.

Our Sandy is doing sound and will be sitting in as well.

Check out the schedule. There is a lot of great music that weekend.
