the "B.M.A.D." (a.k.a.: "Bethany Jam") monthly gathering will be happening again.

Do a Mapquest for:

312 Litchfield Turnpike

A friend told me about this, but we were under the impression it was a "by invitation only" sort of thing.

What sort of music? Blues? Bluegrass?

It's by "word of mouth" only......consider yourself invited.

It is a big barn that has been converted into a house, that is owned by a retired Yale Prof.. It will make you feel as if you have stepped back in time to the 60's, on a commune.

There are no drugs....this is a clean, "family" type event where you can trust folks. I leave my cases and instruments down during the night and nobody has ever had any security issues.

This is hundreds (literally) of folks streaming in and out from 7:30 p.m. til the wee hours of the morning. Folks of all ages, from 5 to 105. Young beginner musicians to a wide variety of paid professionals who come together for the sole purpose of sharing their love of playing music.

It is an acoustic event, without amps (in fact, "Bill" the homeowner and event organizer requests "no amps") at which food is a a B.Y.O. and is shared communally (not required, but most folks will bring something to share).

Celtic, Bluegrass, Blues, Folk, Gospel, an informal Square Dance, etc......as you wander the home you will find many rooms, full of musicians, and you join in as you like.

Parking is so-so, and I recommend arrival by no later than 8 p.m. (if you don't like to hike down a very busy road from where you parked, to the house itself).

Put "312 Litchfield Turnpike, Bethany, CT into your GPS or Mapquest, and you will find the place.

Here's a link to the website that Bill maintains, that tells you the date each month, for the next B.M.A.D. ("Bethany Music And Dance):

Hope to see you there!

Just 4 more days til the August "Bethany Jam" gang.......make your plans NOW if you are anywhere near mid-state Connecticut.

We have folks who come every month, from as far away as Massachusetts and Rhode Island, so that should tell ya something about the "worth it" aspects.

Cya there?!

Once again I shamelessly bump this up on the list (I know, I know.....some of you are tired of seeing it)....

"Bethany" is the "day after tomorrow" (the 22nd) and I'm SURE that, once you've experienced it....you'll not want to miss another one. Thus the repeated reminder.

The weather here is promising to be terrific over the next 5 days or so, which means that not only will all the rooms of the house (a BIG house) be filled with musicians playing that you can participate in at will, but the yard will have musical circles all over the place as well.

Let me know if you need any info, but the address is in at least ONE of the postings.....

See ya there!!

I guess I need to start watching threads about Connecticut jams. My daughter and son-in-law are about to move to Ridgefield for a year. He's with IBM and will be on special assignment until they move back to Raleigh after this assignment is over.

If I want to visit my grandkids there, I'll need to get the 411 on local guitar stores and all that.

Thanks... I'll probably visit them for the first time after the move around the end of October or beginning of November. I hate to admit it, but the thought of cold weather absolutely terrifies me.

Connecticut is not as bad as up-state Maine, where I grew up......it'll grow on you.
