IT IS HAPPENING
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 11:00-?
OCEANSIDE, CA. DETAILS TO FOLLOW SOON!!!!!

So, I've been talking about this and now it looks as if there are enough interested people to make this happen. I'm thinking Saturday, August 23. My house is available, BUT keep in mind it is SMALL. We would be outside under our big covered porch and/or in the lawn. If someone else has a bigger place to offer that might be good, but I'm sure my place could work.

Sounds like 6-8 local people interested, and also some of the WONDERFUL folks from the Orange Co./LA area.

I am thinking a Potluck meal and snackies beginning about 11:00 and going untilllllllllllllllllllll people go home. a "familyish" gathering, but beer and wine welcome.

Hey Moderators.............could you make this a "Sticky" to help this happen (PLEASE!!!!!!!).

So, should we do this????????????????:up::guitar::up:

I'd like to come if my hand is healed enough ... I haven't been going to the other get togethers (or guitar stores) because I can't trust myself to not overdo. I have a feeling I'll probably have to pass on this one, but maybe in a month or two.

Count me tenatively in! It's the same day as my sister-in-law's birthday, but the chance of her having a mid-day party is pretty low...

I'm going to keep bumping this up so you guys who are interested will see it and respond.

I haven't heard from the Mod's about making it a "Sticky", but I can totally understand any reluctance as Everyone might want their thread to be a Sticky.

Anyway, let's investigate interest for a gathering on the 23'rd. It's only two weeks away and we need to make plans.............

Gonna keep "bumping" this until you S. Diego folk take notice........:guitar::guitar:

you can try starting a thread on craigslist, that'll probably get you more local responses

Jun,

I'm only willing to put SO much energy into this..........Either people speak up, or it was not meant to happen.

Hey, that's COOL I can always continue to come hang with you LA folk who have this thing together...................

Consider sending PMs to people who responded to the previous thread... not everyone around checks new messages as often as you and I do. :)

Once again, I have only SOOOO much energy for making this happen. It would be GREAT fun, but I opened the book, it's time for others to turn the page:guitar::guitar::guitar:

Hey Russ,

Haven't seen much happening here. . . is there going to be a get-to-gether down there? I will come. I don't know what I could do to help from here, but I'd be happy to help in any way I could. KoaGuitarMan (Russ) or iq_below2 (Dennis) should be able to tell you what they have done in putting together successful guitar parties. Hope you get a San Diego group going. If not this month, then we'll see you back in LA at the next one I hope.

Thanks,
Mike

Hey Russ! Gatherings usually start from small beginnings...

My suggestion is just set a date and people (even if it is just 3 or 4) will show up and some people will cancel at the last minute.

When I first did a gathering I had great expectations and let my emotions get twisted when people wouldn't respond or when they canceled. Over time I learned to enjoy myself even if only a couple of people came and won't let myself get caught up in any disappointments in how people respond.

Set a date ... have a party... have fun... watch it grow over time..... build friendships...have fun....under expect..... have fun.....don't do too much work.... have fun......get pizza if just a few are coming.....do your best to enjoy what is, not what you expect. I first focused on my expectations and found anxiety and disappointment, someone would cancel and I worried that everyone else would not enjoy themselves because only a few would make it.. Those days are gone now, I just have fun!

I really found out it was about those that came not about those who didn't make it.

Not sure if I'll make it down there but I'll try.... just let me know when :)

So is it not happening this weekend? If not, do schedule one - once started, it should snowball.

I can't make it happen at my place this weekend. If all this energy had happened sooner I would have made it happen, but since it looked questionable for awhile I made a commitment to my church.

I am still totally up to getting this "kicked off", but this weekend and Labor Day weekend are out. So, let's talk seriously about a Saturday in September. My place is still open........

I feel this is going to happen, and once we kick it off I feel it will take on a life of its own.

Russ, that's good to hear! Either the 20th or 27th of September are ideal for me.

You have a PM!

OK,

Let's do it. I say Saturday, September 27. 11:00-?. My place is small but available. I have a pretty good size yard with a large covered porch and a upstairs deck. I say we could comfortably accomodate around 20-25 people. By late September it will be cooling off, and I live only blocks from the beach so it never gets very hot.

People would have to bring a chair to sit on as all of our lawn furniture has arms. We could do a potluck or collect money for pizza. People bring whatever they want to drink and some snacks. The plan would be to get acquainted, talk guitars, share instruments and songs, have fun..............AND, Tell Esteban jokes:D:D!!!!!

No expectations as to skill level, so please, everyone feel welcome. It's all about having fun!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, there is a start, now others "Chime in". If this begins to look like it is getting too big we may have to relocate, but I would love hosting us.........

FABULOUS............Let's keep talking. People should also bring guitar stands!!!!!!!!!!!!

The gathering I attended in LA was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much fun. NOBODY was afraid to let others play their guitars, there was alot of great guitar talk, a nice circle of trading songs and Simply GOOD fun. I had the opportunity to play alot of fabulous guitars...........

We were LUCKY enought to have Peter from Cornerstone Guitars be there to educate us all on guitar construction.............PETER are you LISTENING..........San Diego is NOT THAT FAR:D:D:D.

ONCE AGAIN for all you readers out there. This is NOT a gathering of "Pros". It is a gathering of people who love and appreciate acoustic instruments and music.

Hey, we could use a percussion player.............AND how about bass, mandolin, banjo......................................:D:D:D
