I have got to start paying attention.

Found out today that the Return To Forever Reunion Tour is tonight at a local venue. I got a ticket, but it's all the way in the back. There's really not a bad seat in the house, but I would have liked to have been about 10 rows back for this one!

Al DiMeola
Stanley Clarke
Lenny White
Chick Corea

Should be a killer show...

There's an amazing amount of collective music that has come from these 4 men in the past 25+ years. Should be an awesome prog-jazz night!

Saw them in Seattle, and it was a great show. It took the sound guy a while to get things adjusted as you could hardly hear Al, but what a show. Stanley on the bass is amazing! Even hung out at the bus for an autograph or two. (just like the old days!) Enjoy your show!

Thanks guys. It was a superb show. They played for almost three hours (including a break.) The first half was all-electric ensemble playing, and once they got into their groove, they laid down some very tight stuff. The second half started with some beautiful acoustic solo and duet work. DiMeola played a magnificent nylon string guitar that was honestly one of the finest sounding instruments I've ever heard. I believe it's a Conde Hermanos that he's been playing for 20 years. I know what "sounds like a piano" means now. Stanley played a stand-up bass and made it come alive. I'm not much into drum solos, but Lenny White still brings some great stuff to the table. And what can you say about Chick Corea?

Each one of these guys bring virtuosity to the table, yet you could tell they had not taken anything for granted, and had really come together again as a group. Has it really been almost 30 years since I last saw them? There were standing ovations after almost every song, and while I think that kind of thing can get a bit superfluous, I found myself standing again and again as the night went on.

The show was videotaped for a DVD release. You can bet I'll buy that one.
