If you happen to be in the far northwest suburbs of Chicago this Saturday morning, or looking for something to do before it gets too hot outside, I'll be playing at the Village of Huntley's Farmer's Market from 9am-12 noon. Held in the Town Square, this is a great little gathering of vendors selling locally grown produce, fresh baked goodies and other tasty treats! This Saturday's market includes a craft fair, so who knows what you'll find!

The music is a blend of familiar standards, classic pop, folk and rock tunes, and a few of my own "Soon to be hits", all performed in an easy going singer/songwriter style. Laid back musical fun is the key...

Stop by to say hi, enjoy a fresh apple cider donut, pick up some fresh picked sweet corn and tomatoes, and peruse the craft fair. A good time is guaranteed for all!

For more info and location address (for the GPS enabled), use the following link to the Village of Huntley website: http://www.huntley.il.us/news/Farmers%20Market/Farmers%20Market%202008.htm

I hope to see you there!!!

You lucky duck, Dave--your farmers' market lets you sleep in and start at 9? When we play Downers Grove, we have to get there by 7 to set up PA, soundcheck by 7:40, and start by 8 am.....and none of the three of us live less than 45 min. away!
Enjoy!

Yeah, I get to sleep in a bit, get there by 8am to set up and be ready to go by 9am. How anybody can sing that early in the morning is beyond me!!! :D

BTW Sandy, when are you at the Downers Grove market?

9:00 am to Noon ? ? ? . . . , 3 hours ?

You're a Monster !

There's a chance I'll swing by. All depends on the weather (I'd go for a m/cycle ride), and how early I get outta bed.

You won't see me at 9:00.

But if the planets are aligned correctly, I'd love to swing by.

Knock 'em dead.

Very Cool! "City of New Orleans" has to be a "Must Play" considering the locale. Any other train songs in the repetoire?

Thanks! I do take a short break about half way through the show to guzzle some water and give the hands a break. Overall, it's about 2 hours 45 minutes of total performance time. I really enjoy these shows -- Chatting up the crowd, promoting the different vendors, playing songs that I don't normally get a chance to play. I think I'm having as much fun as the crowd!

Hope to see ya there!

Katie sings lead on "City of New Orleans." I have another "disappearing railroad" (in a different way, a la The Flying Dutchman) song called "The Molly Gibson" and Susan has one called "Ghost Train." And I have a
"Freight Train" parody about the CTA. When I play as part of the SASS! Trio, only Katie gets to sing the cover tunes--Susan insists she & I do our originals.

Back when "City" first hit it big, I had a semi-parody (slightly different melody & meter) called "The 7:55 Out of Babylon," about that fabled Long Island Railroad train that nobody can ever recollect having left on time. But it was NYC-specific, and by then I was living in Seattle, so it died on the vine except with law school classmates from the NY area.

It's been confirmed. Gutch IS a monster; horns, and a tail, and all.

It was (is) a beautiful day. After getting up early and going to a dentist appointment, 9yuck), I cruised on out to Huntley; bought a mini custard and berry pie from some French speaking nuns; and sat on a folding chair in teh shade; and caught the last hour of Dave's performance.

The guy's got a lot of talent, and a great equipment setup; and he knows how to use it.

Great show.

He could be a Taylor endorser, too. He has 4 of them on a rack; and switches back and forth regularly.

The equipment (Bose sytem) sounds great. And he has a GREAT voice.

You all missed a great show. Catch him if you can.

Thanks so much for the kind words, Marshall. It was so nice for you to make the trip out for the show. It was a beautiful day -- Frankly, picture perfect with clear skies, cool breeze and perfect temps! Made the three hours fly by...

Re: Pastries -- I heard nothing but rave reviews about the Notre Dame Nuns who were selling those goodies. Apple turnovers, chocolate croissants, those mini pies... I should have walked over and made a deal -- Something tasty for a little freee announcement! :D

RE: My tail and horns -- I thought I tucked them in before the show... :halo: Honestly, there were a couple serious dogs in the set (I completely lost key on a stupid simple song, "Take it Easy") but, overall, I was pretty happy with how it turned out. That is such a laid back, fun show, it's nearly impossible not to fall into a groove and really get into your playing. The people are all so relaxed and encouraging, and it's a blast to watch the little kids dancing in the park while you play. That's what sharing music is all about...

Thanks again for coming out. Next time, strap a guitar on your back when you mount the cycle and sit in for a few tunes. Would be great fun!!!

Oh, those nuns can be DANGEROUS!!!! They frequent the Downers Grove and Bellwood (where I've played to shill for a coffee-roasting buddy) markets too, and even set up shop outside our local parish church (my father-in-law was viciously attacked by a custard Tarte Tatin that sank its teeth into his pant leg and followed him home).
Some day I'd love to do a gigshare--or even a Borders-in-the-round with Gutch & Marshall. It'd be tons of fun.

Interesting concept, Sandy. Putting together a team of performers and shopping that around various venues.

Of course nobody makes any money off it. But it's a way to get exposure and have fun.
