Hot on the heels of Jim Tozier's amazing set (as long as two conventional sets) at Broadway Cellars last Wed. evening, I will be performing there Sat. July 19 after my block party, between 7-9:40 pm. No cover, but you are going to want to have some of that wonderful food and wine--upscale menu, neighborhood prices! Great acoustics--quiet enough to hear me but you can still converse with your dining/drinking buddies (hey, I won't be offended). Details:
BROADWAY CELLARS Restaurant & Wine Bar (yeah, big screen in the bar if you want to follow the game)
5900 N. Broadway (cor. Rosedale, across from the Armory--1 bl. SE of CTA Thorndale Red Line station)
Chicago, 60660
773-944-1208
7-9:40 pm (kitchen closes at 10).
It's a Sat., so reservations are suggested!
Let me know if you want to come to my block party first.

NOTE--it's FREE--not even a tip jar or CD-sale spiel!!!!!!!!!!
Bump for the gig--less than a week away. I don't often get to play solo anymore, and this is a great place. You can still hear quite well if you want and carry on a conversation if you don't. Home of the calamari that got the Jim Tozier Seal of Approval. (I recommend the Seafood Sliders--a trio of mini-sandwiches: MD crabcake, coconut shrimp and classic New England lobster roll). Wonderful, carefully chosen and extremely reasonable wine list--available by the bottle, glass or even in "flights" of 3 smaller glasses.
And my block party (Glenlake) is earlier that day! (Come by before the gig if you'd like, and bring the kids).

It is a great place indeed. Nice and comfy to sit in the bar, have a brew or vino and a horse douver, or meal.
But I shall be otherwise disposed that day.
Have great fun.

Went fairly well, except for the champagne flute (mine, fortunately) I knocked over with my peghead at the start of my third set; and the fact that I might have been a little louder than I should have been (my father-in-law, who walked in just before the first set and stayed till almost the start of the third, kept telling me nobody could hear me---when it turned out that HE couldn't hear the lyrics and assumed everyone else wanted to). I made a couple of mistakes which nobody heard; sold a CD and got tipped by a patron even though there was no tip jar. Since the word's gotten around that it's a good and lucrative place to play if you don't mind being in the background, and they have live music only for Sat. nights (except for the jazz trio who plays for the monthly Wed. wine tasting), the rotation is probably going to be a fairly long one. I did a mix of about 2/3-3/4 originals and 1/4-1/3 covers (which turned out to be mostly by dead people--Dundee,Goodman, Zevon, Fogelberg), and got a lot of complements about my voice (as well as the usual fascination with the dulcimer, which is still unfamiliar to most people). Even managed a nice arrangement of Norah Jones' "Don't Know Why" on baritone dulcimer (might screw up the courage to post it).
