Saw Phil Lesh at Innsbrook in Richmond after winning two tickets on a radio station contest. I hadn't heard live Dead music since the early 70s at William & Mary Hall in Williamsburg. Jackie Greene is an amazing guitar player and vocalist.................:guitar:

Back in my college days, I was a huge Deadhead. I worshipped their music and everything about them. Still, listening to their live performances (recorded and in person) I was sometimes unimpressed. At times they seemed a little sloppy.
A few years ago, a friend of mine gave me a bootleg CD of Phil and Friends that was recorded right from the board. Very good quality for a bootleg. Almost all Dead tunes. It occurred to me after listening to it a few times, that this is probably what the Dead would have sounded like if they hadn't been stoned all the time. Very tight and lots of energy.
Phil and Friends are a great band.

I saw Phil et al about 5 years ago at the Greek in Berkeley (a fantastic place to see a show). He had Warren Haynes and Jimmy Herring on guitar. That was a really good show.

Man, I miss that lineup... that was probably the best run of Phil shows they did when they had Warren, Jimmy, and Rob Baracco touring with them.

I saw them with Jackie Green last fall I guess it was in Baltimore. Jackie is good for a young guy but was still learning the material. Larry Campbell has soooo much more talent and ability as a guitar player. They make a good team. I am going to see them at the AllGood Music Festival in WVA next month. Great lineup there and pretty cheap.
