It occurred to me yesterday after the AGF GTG that we have quite a few Forum members w/in a 100-mile (give or take a few) radius of Chicagoland who play out. So if not a "sticky," maybe a heads-up might be in order about where we'll all be playing this month. (Feel free to add your gigs to the thread if you live or will be playing within driving distance of the Great Lakes Rim)!

Dave Gutshall (Gutch) will be appearing next Sat. June 7 at Borders on Randall Rd. in Algonquin (a stone's throw from Jim, Alicia, Reed, et al). I think the shows start at 7-ish or so, and run till 10. Love to be there if I weren't in Madison that night!

I'll be at the Baked Tomato, 4358 N. Elston in Chicago this Wed. June 4 at 8 pm till 10-ish (on the bill with Tricia Alexander, Al Day, host Lance Brown--who also paints to live music--and guest bassist Doug Lofstrom). Our own Marshall Hjerkstedt (Marshall) will be part of June 25th's lineup.

Fri. June 6, at 7 pm, Andina & Rich inaugurate the Friday Concert In the Park summer series in the new music tent-pavilion at Governor Nelson State Park in Madison, WI. The next night we co-host WI's most eclectic open stage at Escape Java Joint at 912 Williamson St. in Madison.

(all of the above are FREE)

Fri. June 13, at 7:30, Andina & Rich are on the bill at Wild Hog in the Woods Coffeehouse in the Wil-Mar Center, on the 800 block of Jenifer (cor. Ingersoll) in Madison. Open mic between sets. Nominal suggested donation (usu. $3-5).

Sat. June 14 and Sun. June 15 is the Gebhard Woods Dulcimer Festival in Gebhard Woods State Park in Morris, IL. It is a camping festival (but you can commute if you want), with all manner of acoustic instrument concerts, workshops, & jams with the emphasis on hammer and mountain dulcimer (and many opportunities to have wonderful luthiers justifiably slenderize your wallets, and eat some wonderful food). Campfires, of course, with spontaneous jams breaking out. Our own GLFerguson will be joining forces again with hammer dulcimer virtuoso Bill Robinson both days; SASS! (Susan Urban--the AGF's SageWoman--and I) will be performing at 1:30 Sun. and teaching at 4 pm. Sugg. donation is $15.

And on Sat. June 28 (day after my 37th anniv!) Andina & Rich will join forces with other members of the Chicago Songwriters' Collective at Panini XPressO in the Crosswinds Shopping Plaza at Harlem Ave. and Rt. 83 in Palos Heights, IL. Free.

C'mon--add your Great Lakes gigs to this thread!

And--DUH--how could I forget our own Norm Siegel (Uncle Dizzy 60) hosting the open mic at Bill's Blues in Evanston (1029 Davis) from 4-6:30 on Sundays---and then running impeccable sound for the touring folk acts that evening?

Hi everybody,

I play every Friday from 7 to 11 at The Millrose Restaurant (www.millroserestaurant.com) in South Barrington just north of 90 on S. Barrington Rd.

It's and acoustic duet with great harmony and lots of popular music from the 60s and 70s, some contemporary music too.

Hope to see you there,

Cyril

Thanks for the plug, Sandy! The show this Saturday in Algonquin starts at around 8pm but, if you're there around 7pm, you can help me load in!!! :D

I'll also be in Naperville playing on the Riverwalk on Friday, June 20 with Andy Huber and his band. That will start at 7pm-ish.

Last-minute gig change: due to severe weather in southern WI and enroute to Madison from Chicago (twisters sighted near Milwaukee and Rockford, tornado watch in the entire NE IL/SE WI area, and thunderstorms at the outdoor venue), tonight's inaugural Concert In the Park at Gov. Nelson State Park has been postponed to Sunday. Tentative time is 3 pm, but we may move it to early evening. Keep ya posted.

Will still be co-hosting the Escape Java Joint open mic tomorrow at 8, and since it's the first one of the month, it'll be in the big Gallery with p.a.

Start time for the first Concert In the Park will be this Sunday at NOON sharp--rain or shine, in a sheltered pavilion at Gov. Nelson State Park, NW of Madison and due N. of Fitchburg, WI. It's the park's 50th anniversary, and in attendance will be members of the Nelson family--as well as other dignitaries (hint--think Congress and state house.....)

Andina & Rich--2 full sets, originals and familiar covers, guitars, dulcimers, banjo, yodeling and FUN!!!

And FREE!! FREEE!!! FREEEE!!!!

I live just 3 or 4 miles from Governor Nelson Park. I bring my dogs there regularly. I'll certainly be there on Sunday.....but I'll leave the pooches at home.

Brent (Nelson...NO RELATION!)

Can the pooches bark on key and thump their tails on the 2 and the 4? ;)

Well....not so much. But they CAN do this (one of my dogs stars near the end of this clip.....I didn't even know he'd snuck in!):

Sandy, Thanks for the bump for the Dulcimer Festival in Morris on June 14 and 15. I'll also be doing a songwriting workshop there on Sunday. By the way, Bill Robinson and I will also be in Long Grove, Illinois performing at Mangels Gifts from 10AM Until 5PM June 20-21 and 22 for the Long Grove Strawberry Festival. (Maybe all of you are up to this as well but try playing for 7 hours/day and 3 days in a row!!! It's hard on the guitar player) but we always have a good time there and make a lot of new friends when we're playing in Long Grove so if you're looking for a nice getaway day trip stop by and see us. In addition, we'll also be performing at the Dulcimer Festival in Evart, Michigan (Big Festival!!) July17-18 and 19th.

Hi Sandy:
I think I saw you performing today (that was you, yes?) at Governor Nelson. I was the blonde guy in the jeans and black t-shirt hanging out in the back with the Diet Mountain Dew. You played some fun stuff!!! I enjoyed it!

Hi Sandy:

Brent

Sure was, Brent! (And that Diet Mt. Dew looked yummy!) Had a blast playing. Even though the park had been closed earlier Fri. due to hail warnings and high winds, and the music pavilion was too wet to safely plug in a P.A., the weather cleared at the last minute and 13 people showed up! (Alas, by the time my car was ready, either of my planned routes to Madison would've taken me right through the path of twisters in either Racine or Belvidere--and I outran one outside Stoughton yesterday as it was).

So Steve & I decided that anyone who showed up to see us Fri. night will get comped at Wild Hog for our show this coming Fri. night. (Honor system--no saying you'd driven up from Texas or flown in from the UK....)

So didja get any of that cake? (For those not there today, we played in the park's garage--yup, I'm back in my garage band days--before and after the rededication ceremonies for Gov. Nelson St. Park, featuring members of the family of the late Gov./Sen. Gaylord Nelson's, who founded Earth Day; there was a multi-pan sheet cake frosted and decorated to scale as a replica of the park!).

I missed out on the cake Sandy, but it looked pretty cool! (it was a replica of the park). I spoke a bit with the woman who made it -- a park employee. It must have taken here quite some time!

I was actually only there about an hour...from noon to 1:00 or so. I'd left before the began the Park anniversary schpeel. And....you're right...the weather here has been and still is BRUTAL...rain, hail, twisters...ugh!

Aha.

Here's where this thread has gone.

As Sandy was so nice to report earlier, I'm doing a set tomorrow (Wed 6/25) at the Baked Tomato (4358 Elston) in Chicago where she played a couple weeks ago. I'm sharing a stage with (I think) Dave Witter and Elizabeth Bagby. The evening goes from 8:00 - 11:00. I think we arm wrestle when we get there for who goes up first. Mr. Lance "Archtop Brownie" Brown is the MC, organizer of the Songwriter Showcase series. He does a few jazz tunes. And Doug Lofstrom plays upright bass like the master he is, and joins in on many tunes.

There's no cover, so I make no promise to buy anyone a beer. But I might.

(My wife asked, "Just what is a baked tomato?" You'll have to go to find out)

Last night was fun.

Mucho thanks to Sandy who came and provided impromptu harmony on 3 of my tunes. :D :D :D
