I don't know if this has been discussed (or possibly even done) before, but I thought thought I should bring it up just in case.

I've seen many areas of the AGF having local get-togethers, but what about having a get-together for EVERYONE? For example, an AGF 3 day camp that has workshops, jam sessions, sponsor booths, etc... The wiser AGF members could hold sessions on guitar theory, special guests could be invited to play and give lectures, and...well, I don't know. I'm just thinking out loud.

Cool! I vote for holding it in Atlanta. ;)

I like the idea, but my participation would depend on when, where, and how much. I work on weekends.

Well, the moderators' expenses would be included in the budget. So you're home free. ;)

You could also have it on the East Coast one year and the next on the West Coast.

how about near the nation's capital? Washington DC makes a great tourist place too!

I think it is a great idea. However, for me I am already going to a fiddle and strings day camp (which has a guitar component to it), so I would have to think about going next year.

The AGF camp idea is definitely an idea worth pursuing, however.

Definitely. Something of this size takes at least a year of planning. It would need to be scheduled for something like June/July 2009 or later.

Yep, I forgot all about the planning. That would take a year or more.

Location, location, location

Ditto what Bob said.
(And Virginia is a great location! :))

Sorry, I don't know how to add choices to the poll.

I agree with the statement "Location, Location, Location"

Even though I live on the West Coast I would recommend a central location. This way it is as close to fair to all as possible.

How about Branson MO? There are lots of hotels, lots of music, lots of things to do other than play guitar. Having something other than guitar to do would be important to those who do not play.

The last time I was there, there was a restaurant that had all you can eat crab and lobster. Lets just say that I got my monies worth and that my bottomless pit of a teenager nearly put them into bankruptcy.

I'm not sure I would get any playing done. I'd just enjoy walking around and checking out everyone's instruments. Can you imagine the wood (no pun intended) in that place? I answered that I'd chicked out later, so I'm not sure this comment even needs to be read, neat idea though.

I really like this idea... One great location that is pretty much universally inexpensive to fly into is St. Louis. Plus, there's TONS of good music there in even the smallest little venues and more great BBQ than even all of us could eat. There are a bunch of small community colleges who could enjoy some income during the summer to house us and provide the playing areas. Some great stores there too...

I'd offer my house, but we're probably getting the kitchen redone. :D

How about Chicago? Nice central place and no problem getting flights to O'Hare airport too! :)

+1 for D.C. or virginia. I'd love to have something like this. As one of the younger members (I think), it'd be amazing to hear you guys play and teach us what you've learned over the years.

I noticed that someone voted that it was a bad idea. I think it's good to hear other opinions and since this thread has been mostly one sided (besides location suggestions), would you be willing to share with us your thoughts?

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but gas prices are KILLING us! I think it's a good idea; I just know that I would be unable to attend. I know that there's a big Taylor get-together every fall. I think that it's called "Monroe-stock." I think a LOT of forum memebers attend that one.

Is this still the case?

I had originally suggested St. Louis because of the central location and my knowledge that airfare into St. Louis is inexpensive from most of America, but since everyone just seems to be suggesting their home town, I'll play and go you all one better...

MIAMI, FLORIDA - in the winter !!!!!!!!! :D

St. Louis would work for me as well ( its still less than a one day drive from West Michigan )
