I'm going to this great workshop centered around learning how to play swing music from the 30's - 50's. (Charlie Christian, Herb Ellis, Freddie Green, etc). The event called Swing Week at Augusta (in Elkins, WV) - held on a college campus (housing & meals available on or off campus) from JULY 13 - 18. The guitar teacher is the amazing Steve Abshire (www.steveabshire.com ) who studied with Herb Ellis, Joe Pass and Steve Jordan. Lots of other instruments are taught as well, so the jamming opportunities in the evening are numerous - PLUS, Blues Week at Augusta happens at the same time so there's opportunities there, too. The program's website is www.augustaheritage.com/swing and you can see an overview of the program at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43zP0Bq0oPw This will change your life! I've been going for many years now. If anyone is interested in playing swing or jazz, I highly recommend that you check this out!!

Haven't been there for swing week. I've gone a few times for Irish week. Great place isn't it? Lots of good memories there. It's always a let down when the week ends and you have to go home.
Enjoy yourself!
