Well this one caught me unawares... the Orlando Guitar Show is this weekend (Jan. 25 / 26 / 27). Off US 192, east of Kissimmee; real easy to get to off the turnpike. I was just looking at the Collings msg. board, RickS said he'd be there on Saturday...

Anybody else? I'd like to go Saturday - carpool? What you say Sharkymon???

Just another thing to upset me about this weekend. We have a function at synagogue that is supposed to be a fund raiser, but is destined to fail. Going in, the organizer knew there were conflicts with other events, but didn't tell the board and we're stuck with this thing now.

If I had my "druthers"... there's the chocolate festival at Fairchild Tropical Gardens, there's a performance by Pharoah's Daughter at the JCC, (500 yards from us at the same time), there's the 99,9 WKIS Chili Cook-off with a bunch of my favorite country music acts in town, there's the Callaway PGA Tour van at a local Edwin Watts store and now there's the guitar show within driving distance.

Just not fair at all...

Ack, sorry to hear that Dennis... such is the curse of season in SoFla; too many good things going on at once. Sharky is also unable to go. :(

Kanned (Sean); anyone? Jim? I'm looking at a Saturday day trip; get up & get goin', spend a good day gawking & geeking at guitars, then probably get a bite to eat before heading back. I am a good traveler, I won't shove candy wrappers into the seats or spit cherry seeds out the window or anything. Heck, Sharky & I hardly knew each other when we went a year ago, and he still talks to me ;)

Otherwise, I may drive solo. I got like three tube amps to sell, but I don't wanna cart em around; too bad, I bet I could find buyers for em.

A link and a bump... looks like I'm flying solo unless someone responds today. I'll just have to report back after Saturday's journey with tales of all sorts of incredible guitars, such that y'all become full of envy and jealousy. HAAAAAHAHAHAHA!!!! That'll learn ya! ;)

Bob,

I know that Fitness1 (Todd) and RickS will be there (no driving help, different direction).....I'm passing this year, but tell me what tube amps you're selling?

Yeah I knew Rick was gonna be there, but Todd too eh? Isn't he a west coast guy? Dang, that's a haul... hope to meet him. And then he can meet his polar opposite, fitness-wise

tell me what tube amps you're selling?

I have a few I want to get rid of, but I'll probably only drag a couple w/ me. Anyways the ones on the block are:

70s era Hiwatt 50W head, no mods, EC.
60s era Ampeg Reverberocket, single 12" speaker, EC, almost mint except for the dust & dirt in the vinyl... still has the original Ampeg tubes.
Early 60s Fender Bassman, separate top & 2x12" cabinet, blonde tolex, flat Fender badges. Many moons ago I had the speakers changed to Kendricks. Head is stock as far as I know.

All of these have been closet dwellers for the last 20 years. Yeah I know that's not the best for them; you're supposed to run them to keep em in good shape, but you know the deal; I like my neighbors :)

Sorry I won't see ya at the show. We do need another mid-FL guit'n'greet, I'm gonna bug Rick about it tomorrow too.

Took a road trip to Tallahassee w/ our college bound youngster. 6.5 hours each way. Would like to catch the show in Miami though.

As it has turned out, I couldn't have gone anyway. My son-in-law's grandmother died and the funeral was yesterday. With the kids in town, I'm not going anywhere.

Well Todd and I were there most all day Sat. and I didn't run into any of the local Fla gang this year? Missed Bob and Mark, even stayed a bit longer and made another pass through looking.

Oh well, guess it will have to be next time around.

BTW, I didn't see much to get real excited about. Some nice electrics and a few good acoustics. Two or three small shop and one man builders on display. Didn't buy or sell anything. Though I would have liked to sell a guitar I had with me. No biggie I suppose.

I don't suppose I'm in the market for anything either, but I've never seen any of the private builder stuff, so I'm really looking forward to the show in April on Miami Beach.

Man, I wish I heard about these festivals before they were done. I'm always busy, but I can study for exams via ipod if I must. Ok, not really studying, but it makes be feel better.

Jawbone, crappy weather in Tally to drive 6.5 hours! FSU is a solid enough school though. I have a hard time not comparing it to where I went before, but that always happens with me. If your kid has any questions that I can answer as a current student, just let me know!

I looked over this thread, but I couldn't have made it anyhow... Been playing gopher and personal mechanic this weekend =(. Thanks for the invite, hopefully I can make the next one!

Rick, sorry I missed you; I was there from 1p till it closed at 6p. I was rather haphazard in my tour of the place, and didn't find Big Orange till late in the day, after you left. Tell ya what, folks like at Big Orange that put their wives & daughters in the booths, are on the right track. It's nice having some element of the fairer sex at a guitar show, a decidedly male-oriented sort of thing. I'm just sayin' ;)

Saturday I spent all day trying to sell one of my electrics, & by the time I did, I only had like 15min. to roll the two amps around that I was looking to sell, & of course the place was emptying out at that point. One dealer told me if I came back Sunday, they'd go... so I daytripped back again Sunday, sucker for punishment that I am. Fortunately he was right... the Hiwatt went right away, and I had lots of interest on the Ampeg, but nobody wanted to give me my bottom price. Cest la vie... one for two on the amps was definitely a success, so I wasn't gonna fire sale my ultra clean & mint Ampeg.

I had fun, but I spent only half my time ogling the vintage stuff; the rest of the time was show & tell w. the gear I was offloading, which tends to result in a lot of back-in-the-day storytelling :) Overall, it was very limited for acoustic offerings; I am sure the Miami thing will be MUCH better for acoustics... also only a few archtops; last year they had quite a few amazing archtops. It seemed like a lot of bread & butter stuff: Gibson Les Pauls of all types, new & old; Fenders new & old, some Rickenbackers and a few Gretsches, etc. A fair amount of old Gibsons slopes from all eras... I played a really fine pre-war J-45(?) that was feather light... man was it sweet sounding. And then I messed up by asking the price :eek: Wowie-wow-wow-wow! Back away slowly... slowly ... :D

but I had a blast playing let's make a deal, and got a couple items I'd been wanting. Fun weekend overall.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention I saw Roy Book Binder at the show on Saturday... he showed me his collapsing guitar, the one with a fitting that removes all six strings off the bridge together... the maker has been linked here previously, but I can't recall the name right now. The case looked well small enough to carry on any airplane. Roy said the thing can be torn down, run through a few flights & airports, and be put back together and still be in tune. REAL slick! He said he did his whole last Europe run with it as his only axe. Pretty amazing. Roy is a heckuva nice guy too... We get to see him once again, up on the Suwannee this March :D
