My 814c Rosewood and Redwood finally came...an incredible instrument. I love the tone, and the resonance is outstanding. I can't find any flaws on the thing.

It's got an upgraded fiddleback mahogany neck and maple binding. It's actually labeled as an 814 Ltd, but I specifically wanted EI rosewood.

One cool thing on the maple binding...when I got back home from TS, I started to think that I wasn't fond of the white binding on the TS redwood 814 they built. I called my dealer and asked him to check into getting maple binding. He called back after talking with Taylor and said it would be an upgrade that would cost many hundreds of dollars.

I was pretty bummed about it and told him to have Taylor go ahead with the standard white binding. Amazing thing...a few hours later he called back and had just received a call from Ed who said Taylor was going to go ahead and do the maple binding on it for free.

I love those people. It really is a pretty guitar, and the action is great. My fingers are sore.

Hey, Scott! Glad to hear that the guitar arrived. Sounds like a really sweet one! I'm just blown away by the redwood tone, personally. I think that this could be the next big thing for Taylor, if they can get the wood in good quantities. The tone is much like cedar but with a bit more headroom, and overall I think that the overtones are more rich and defined. Lift your arm off the guitar and just strum a G chord and listen to it glow. ahhhhh!

Post some pictures of that beauty!

I know what you mean!!

Congrats Scott, really looking forward to seeing pics! Since maple or koa binding is standard on the Fall 8xx-LTDs that's probably why your label says 814-LTD.

I had the same woods and binding (except the neck) on my TS912. I think the combination looks awesome. :)

Mine should be here tomorrow - can't wait since it'll be my very 1st Taylor!!

(I'll probably keep my Ovation around just in case I want to drag it around somewhere) :)

Okay, okay! I'll upload some pics. Where do I do that?

I spent hours yesterday playing this thing...it's amazing. Without a doubt, it's going to be my favorite guitar ever...and since I'm old, I've owned a lot of guitars.

Ryan: No way is this going on Ebay. It's got my name in it...that means I have to keep it forever.

Jeffrey: Pics coming. I need to take some that look decent.

Sonshine: I'll let you know, but in all honesty, I'm kind of afraid to take the thing out of the house.

My son thinks it sounds way better than my 710 coco, but I think it just sounds incredibly different. The dred is louder, but the 814 r&r has more character, tone, and sustain. J.R. is right...Taylor should consider offering a redwood top. Of course the downside...those of us who order redwood can't brag that we're among the few, the proud, the redwoods.

I recall Uncle Bob saying that Taylor had only made about 10 redwoods prior to TS.

Thanks for the reminder, Joe. Actually, I took a couple but they didn't do the guitar justice. I'll keep working on it. I'm still loving it.

Congratulations on getting your guitar Scott !!

you will have pictures soon I hope. I think you made a good choice if you did not already have a Rosewood guitar, and I bet the maple binding really sets it off. I can't imagine that it would sound much better with 900 wood as opposed to the 800 rosewood I looked at when I was considering a dread as a 2nd TS guitar.

Enjoy bro.
