Kelley and I have decided to open our home to the AGF and you're invited. I don't care if it's one person or ten... we plan to have a great time. We're looking at April 26, 2008 in Louisville. This will be in the middle of the Kentucky Derby Festival, so if you want to stay at a hotel, it will be truly important that you book early. We have room for about 6 people - an airbed, a guest room, and plenty of sleeping bag room for those who are willing, plus two showers.
Grilling, great music, great guitars, and just a good time playing and having a bit of a party. We have a large music/living room in an area that is truly wonderful. We wholeheartedly invite any AGF member to come and play, or visit. Those who come early can take a nice visit to FQMS among other places...
And, having traveled around quite a bit, I certainly expect Chicagoans et al to travel the short six hours it would take. Google your area to 40206 to get an approximate distance and time.
Thanks for your attention! Email me or post with your availability. We would love to have you up. This includes the Bonds and RickS, among others. And Sandy, we need your coffee expertise!

Hmmm... 40206...
I grew up in the Highlands, 40205, until I was 10, then moved to Indian Hills in 40207. I must have gone through 40206 somewhere along the line.
I have relatives who live by River Road Country Club and friends in New Albany, so I have someplace to stay.

HUM, that date sounds to me like it is within the start and finish of Turkey season over in W Va so this might actually be doable for me.
Keep me on the info list Wade, I think this is quite possible.

I grew up in 40207 (Windy Hills, not the hoity-toity Indian Hills) and my street was a veritable "lovers' lane" as a very isolated dead-end street. I lived off Rudy Lane, if that gives you a hint. ;) It's all changed now, but it sure was a great place to grow up...

Wade, my wife already thinks I'm crazy as a loon with my geetar exploits.
Shoot I drove to Vermont to pick up the new Frog in person. But I did take her along for the ride. LOL
If I told her I was driving 900 miles for one day of pickin with friends she would know I am over the edge. But she expects me to run away for hunting season. So one day of pickin in that time frame is a no brainer for me.
I'll make that work some way or another.

Nope, no spring deer season.
But spring Gobbler season is in at that time in many places. And I usually go up to W V for that right around the end of April or first of May.
So, that's why it works well for me to make the pick in. She already expects me to be gone.

Indian Hill subdivision is just the benchmark out there. We were on the fringe... Pawnee Trail off Blankenbaker Lane. I went to Wilder Elementary and the now closed Westport High School. Back then, all of the houses downhill from us on Blankenbaker Lane hadn't been built. We used to play on that land until they became construction sites. We used to catch crayfish in the creek at the bottom too... good memories.

His was that house back off the road right across from Locust Grove. Back then he was isolated. I believe he's left the planet... but regardless, the house is now surrounded by subdivisions.

Okay, I'll bump this up. Because it's in the middle of the two-week Kentucky Derby Festival, if anyone is coming for an overnighter without a sleeping bag, you'll want to reserve early. We have a little room here, but not much for a camp out, but we're willing to open up the couch and music room to sleeping bags. We're both really excited about this, and if people from both Kentucky and a few hours drive would come, we'd be honored.
I will say this - even at small gatherings, a 2 to 6 hour drive has been worth it - for larger ones, eight hours is not a problem. Acoustic players are good folks, after all.
This will basically be our Honeymoon. We are getting married on the 12th of April (actually it's earlier - this is the public ceremony), and we can think of nothing better to celebrate than a bunch of acoustical, GAS infected miscreants for a wonderful sendoff on the 26th!
APRIL 26, 2008 - COME AND PLAY! And... we'll be doing it whether it's one or a dozen people, and having a GREAT time.
Thanks for your time...
Wade

Just for the record, should nothing major happen between now and then I WILL be there. I already have the time off from work, approved. Pickin on Sat and then off to the middle of nowhere on Sun. (Buckhannon)
Took the Fri before off for the slightly longer drive from Florida.
Can't wait !

So far, so good (Susan's other duo is booked that weekend). Fair warning, though--will need to be helped up off the floor if in a sleeping bag!

Will pack my machine & grinder (unless your Krups is in good working order) and will, before hitting the road, roast up plenty of decaf espresso, the morning beans of your choice (if I've got 'em--I suggest Sumatra, Harar, Guatemala or thereabouts) and my own Rocket Fuel espresso blend.

Never been to Kentucky before, but if I could do the following, I might be able to make it:
1. Hitch a ride and split the gas cost with someone from the Chicago area (I have a GPS unit we can use too!)
2. Get a place on your floor (if you don't mind someone snoring away...)
3. If I don't end up getting booked to shoot a wedding that weekend...
Since my wedding bookings can happen at any time, getting a hotel in advance is out for me. The floor really seems to be my best option since I can't commit so far in advance. Is there any more floor space?
I'd most likely play bass to help round out our sound if that's ok with everyone. I could bring my Fender 5 string Jazz bass and my daughter's bass amp...
Anyone from Chicago want to split the gas and also do the driving? I could help drive your car too, but most likely will have to leave my own car at home for my wife and daughter to use for the weekend... I can hear the complaint already if I took one of the vehicles away on a guitar road trip! :D Don't need to add to the frustration at home about all my guitar activities! :)
Most likely I won't know until we approach April if I can truly make it or not. But I'd like to be there if I can!

I can only speak for myself ( and if others objected either in principle or during the event itself I hope we are all friends to the point where it would be mentioned ) but that would be fine with me. The two gatherings I have been at where you did this I thought it was done tastefully and in a way that was enhancing and not interfering with the acoustics being played. I would hope that you would bring at least one acoustic as well.....

I have a friend who's a great bass player and plays both electric and stand up too, so if he comes, then ppl can take turns or whatevah. :)

I just saw Sandy and SASS (and others) play tonight at a Holiday concert. Very enjoyable evening.
Sandy said, "Are you going to the Louisville gathering ?" I said I saw the thread but hadn't checked it out yet. . . . , NOW I have.
I've got a few things to check out schedulewise. But this seems like a fabulous idea. I'll put myself in at 70% right now. By the end of the year I should know what the Spring looks like.
And for sure I would love to split driving and gas. My Corolla gets great mileage and would be available. It can probably hold 3 personages with guitars and stuff. I'm a likely sleepingbag-anywhere person.

Marshall:
If we both are able to go and if there is still room on the floor, maybe we can work it out and go together. Since we live relatively close to each other, it works out even better. Let's play it by ear (catch the pun?) and see where our schedules are as the date approaches.
Thanks

I just realized April 26th is the next to last day of Passover and I doubt I can leave town at that point. There are religious services on the Saturday and Sunday, last two days of the holiday, the Saturday being the jam. I'll see what I can arrange, specially since I want to visit family in Louisville, an uncle who is not doing well at all.
I was looking at making it a long weekend until I realized the conflict. The guy I would stay with is a guitar player who bounces back and forth between classical acoustic and Telecaster Twang. How's THAT for a combination?

My Taurus comfortably fits three people, three or four guitars (sometimes a small PA), three overnight bags, two dulcimers, a banjo, keyboard and single and triple guitar stands. Three bedrolls (and I bet I can find a flat-folding aluminum cot so I needn't put my bedroll on the floor) should also fit (plus coffee gear--I know Wade has a machine & grinder, so I can just bring the beans). This might work!

I'd like to go, but it is a little early for me to commit.
I'll check here periodically for updates.
I am interested in car-pooling......ROADTRIP!!!!!!!!!!!

I think carpooling might be a good thing. Cuts the cost, gives you some company and is safer than driving 6 hours by yourself. :)

Yeah... I was thinking the same thing... ROADTRIP!
I too, can't commit fully yet either, but I wouldn't mind a trip. Never been to Kentucky too, so that's exciting as well. Play some guitars, see some sights... what's not to like? :)
