its that time again!

at least to start planning. I was thinking sometime in February or march. that way we can get it on our calendars.

we might be too busy over the holidays to get together, but that doesn't mean we can't plan!

here are some dates:

Feb 16, 23 '08
March 1, 8, 15 '08

if we plan in advance and put it on our calendars, we can have a great time!

which dates sound good to you and who can host?

who's game?

I'm game and willing to host. But if anyone else wants to host, more power to ya. I don't mind. Feb/March should work for me.

Definitely interested. The last one was great and I was only sorry to see it end. Its a little difficult to commit to one of the dates suggested (or any others) at this time. They are all equally good and bad right now. Will be planning a warm weather trip (February) soon and that will clear up scheduling questions for me. Happy to host - or not. Plenty of room. No imposition. Could also commit to hosting one later that could allow for more playing outside. Location is Bethesda/Chevy Chase.

Feb/March works for me...though last year didn't we do the one in DC about mid-January? That seemed to work too. I missed the last one so looking forward to seeing/hearing everyone I've met at the previous ones.

I'm relatively new to the forum, and have always wanted to go to one of these as it sounds like great fun.

I'm interested, depending on the final chosen location. I'll be coming from Carroll county in Maryland.

I too am interested in attending. I have to ask though - what's the "level" of playing here? I don't want to drag others down with my terminal mediocrity-ness...

Count me in again. I enjoyed the last one. Just wish I could have stayed longer.

I found it to be all levels, no pressure, and complete acceptance. Really a great group.

Thanks John for offering to host, and I look forward to meeting you. I'm also willing to host depending on the size crowd. My living and family rooms probaby are comfortable for 8-10 people max each...and we had more than that last time.

My schedule is always up in the air. Put me down for a definite maybe.

Plus, If I show up, no one has to worry about being their playing not measuring up. :D

I have enjoyed the last two and look forward to the next. February 16 is, however, out for me. The others all look ok at this point.

I'm not worried, I'm showing up with no strings on my guitar and then I'll just pretend to strum along while listening to all the great guitarists around me. Every so often though, I'll need to remember to stop and pretend to tune up a bit, cocking my head to one side and listening intently to my, uh, air strings... :)

But seriously, I'm in the same boat, and don't want to bring the group down. I've only been playing 3 years and still trying to learn the basics. These gatherings sound like great environments to pick up a few tips, make a few new friends, and generally have a good time.

As far as dates, I'm pretty open right now, just waiting to figure out the final location and then I'll have a better idea of whether I can make it or not.

listened to a couple of the tracks you put up on soundclick. you will fit in just right with all the overly modest folks that played at the last gathering. that kind of playing won't bring anybody down. thanks for sharing them. by the way, what kind of strings are you using on that air guitar?

Work travel permitting, I'd like to try to attend as well, and that should help with the low end of the quality spread. Besides, I know LindaW wants to play the Arti.;)

I'd like to try it again. Play is, well.....

I've got a good country rhythm going tho'. How long before I get good at fingerstyle?? AAAUGGHH.

It might be good to first see when Monroestock will be. We wouldn't want to schedule a gathering that same weekend. But for my vote, I say early March because then there is less of a chance that we have to worry about snow. Feb. seems to be a big snow month every year out here.

I agree with Eric. I'm not the host, but just to get the dates out there.. March 1, March 2, March 8 or March 9. What do the rest of you think?

March 2, 8 or 9 are good for me. It just seems so far off! If earlier, I am available any weekend except the 1st and 2nd of Feb.

maybe the person hosting can narrow in on date. anyone able to host this time around?

sayheyjeff
11-29-2007, 08:22 AM
I am definitely willing, able and happy to host a couple of times this year including this time. Thoroughly enjoyed it last time. Didn't want to push it if others are interested in hosting, or some feel a location in Northern Virginia, farther out on the Maryland side of DC, or even closer to Baltimore or anywhere else is more accessible or convenient. Just can't really make a firm commitment to a date in February or March yet. Any and all of those dates Eric suggested may work, but Paula and I have some plans to finalize and that may not get done until the 1st week in January. If folks want to pick one of the suggested dates and say 'we have a gathering tentatively scheduled for that date at jeff's, I can go with that for now. There is just a small chance that a Plan B will be necessary. We can talk about it here, in PMs, in email, or on the phone. I am certainly looking forward to getting together again, and even playing with folks who won't be bored playing with a learner like me.

Jeff,

I'm happy to have you go ahead and host this one. I'll back you up. :)

I can do that. Heading to Connecticut in the morning for a few days with the Paula's family. We will talk about the best dates. Should settle on one of the suggested dates by the middle of next week.

I'm new around these parts -- lurking and posting for just a short time... but this gathering sure sounds like it could be some fun. I'd enjoy getting to know some new folks and being forced into increased practice thru the sheer weight of embarrassment. once the dates get firmed up I'll have a better idea whether I can make it. for now, saying maybe... definitely interested.

Welcome to the forum! We in the DC area are a pretty understaning bunch, so try to make it even if you haven't polished every lick yet.

You're down near Cakes in Warrenton, so you've got good company real close to you. I'm not real far in Manassas.

thanks for the welcome Mike!

very much appreciated. And actually I'm wondering if I might know you already. I've known a Mike Henry for many, many years -- we share a mutual friend in Dave Allison. My full name is Patrick Callahan. Our family has been in Warrenton only about two years... before that Gainesville, and Manassas before that. Could you be the same person?

If so, it's great to be reconnected -- hope all is well with you and yours. If not, cheers regardless!! I look forward to getting to know some new folks.

best regards!
