I am going to the Arlington Guitar Show this weekend in Arlington, Texas. Every year it seems to get bigger.

I'll be there on Sunday. It's getting a bit pricey as I think the fee is up to $15 this year. Oh well-It's cheaper than Cowboy tickets! See you there.
I'll be there as well as some other Guild Geezers. We'll be the ones in the LTG T-shirts. :D

Well I won't be at the show, but some of my guitars will be.
A friend who owns a local shop is on his way out right now. I sent a few acoustics with him to put up for sale. He does a LOT of vintage electric stuff, but is somewhat missing on the decent acoustic side. So when I have some for sale I usually let him have a chance. Helps us both out some times.
So stop by and say hi to Dennis at Big Orange Guitar. Tell him Rick sent ya.

I got to the show Sunday morning before the crowds arrived. I was pleased to see they seemed to have more acoustics than in the past. Martin and Taylor guitars were well represented. And I saw many Lowden models that I had never seen. I got to play some guitars that I had heard of from the forum but had never seen. I was most impressed by a Morgan Concert. Also, I played a Republic resonator that I really liked. Pretty economical too. I don't know much about collector guitars, but there were quite a few 1940 Martin D-18s that were priced at $6000-$10,000 and they all looked quite worn (i.e. beat up). I won't be buying any of those. I saw a few friends, played a few guitars, put a few instruments on my wish list, bought a new fingerpicking book from Mel Bay, bought a harmonica and was given a few picks. Not a bad day and I'm glad I went to the show.

I was at the show on Sunday and found it to be very enjoyable this year. You could actually talk to one another without yelling and you could hear yourself play an acoustic. Not as many wankers playing loudly as years past. Dave's Guitars (LaCrosse, WI) had a great selection of acoustics as did Fuller's Guitars (Houston). I often wonder if anybody ever whips out a wad of cash and buys any of these vintage guitars. All in all, I had an enjoyble afternoon and saw lots of fine stringed instruments.

Didn't whip out a wad of cash for a vintage on this trip but did come home with a custom Taylor from Fuller's -- the selection was amazing and their pricing was excellent. Definitely worth the $15 entry... and airfare.... and hotel.... yeah, still very much worth it!

Whoa, Cal! Beautiful guitar! Did you come all the way from the left coast for the show? Fullers had a great selection and the guys working there were very nice. Congrats on your score and enjoy!

I didn't get to the Arlington show, but there is a show coming up in 2 weeks in Philly. I'm negotiating with the wife to attend the show, then mosy on over to Atlantic City for the evening. I've got my people talking to her people!
One of these days, we're gonna make a show in Texas. I have friends in Dallas and this would be a great excuse to visit.

Thanks Bill --
the Fullers guys, Hewey and Vance were great. Vance has a wonderful sales technique -- you sit down, he hands you a great guitar then he just stands there and smiles while you sell yourself.
I was one of the letstalkguild.com group. We came from California, Michigan, Ontario, Oregon, Florida, Texas and ??? The Saturday night jam at the Sheraton was the best -- started a little before 6 and wrapped at 1AM, can't wait till next year!
