Oct 25-28 near Live Oak, FL.
Is anyone going? I'd like to see if I could meet up with 1-3 other people and share the cost of the rental car that we'll have to take from Jacksonville to the festival (about 80 miles away). I'll be arriving in Jacksonville in the late afternoon of the 24th, and leaving the morning of the 29th (plus or minus a couple days, maybe).

I'll be there :D
Can't help ya with the travel part myself, as I'll be driving up from SoFla. I do have one friend camping w/ us that's flying in from Jersey, pretty sure he's flying to Jacksonville, but I believe he's coming in on Thur 10/25. Not sure on his departure date... I will ping him & find out. I'm sure he'd like to save a few $$ if he could; he's doing the MagBud thing (volunteer) to save on the ticket price. At any rate, full tour is the way to go! (i.e., not leaving on Sunday...)
I go regularly to both SpringFest and Magnolia Fest... have done a headsup once or twice, but it seems hardly anyone on this forum goes to them. Nonetheless, best of luck; in the meantime I'll see what I can find out re: my Jersey bud.

Cool. Please keep me updated. I haven't made my plane reservations yet. I figure I have another couple of weeks to get 'em, which is why I want to try to line something up NOW.

Cosmic ,
I talked to my Jersey bud last night; turns out he got a deal on flights in/out of Tampa. He comes in Wed afternoon 10/24, departs Tue AM 10/30. If you're still interested in sharing some costs, and are able to fly in/out of Tampa of course, I can PM you his email addy. Sorry for not having good info on my end; I'd totally forgotten he was connecting via Tampa. Let me know.

Hmmm... Tampa is nearly 3x as far away (195 miles vs 80 miles). Not sure if I want to drive that far. So I guess this won't work out. Bummer. Ah well. Thanks for trying.
Anyone else??? With 2000+ people attending, I'd HOPE that someone else on this forum would be going!?!?

Yeah I thought the drivetime would be a negative... we have mutual friends in the Tampa Bay area, so that was part of why he didn't mind flying there despite the longer drive. Sorry it didn't work out.
Spend some time here and you'll probably figure out that most of the folks here, are a quite different demographic than who you'll find at MagFest. Just not much overlap. Plus, not that many here on this board are located in FL; it's just a handful, and we are all scattered.
As I said, best of luck! :)

Understood about the non-overlap. I've never been to "magfest" so I'm not aware of the demographics -- except what I saw in the movie about the festival.
Nevertheless, I'll keep trying here and elsewhere to find a way to make the trip a little cheaper and funner.
Thanks for all the info...

The movie is pretty on-target... it's nice that it's small and casual. Real easy to chat with the performers. And there's slamming good picking at some of the camps too. Get there and you'll probably have more fun than you can stand :D

Bought my camping supplies today! Almost ready to go! Yes, I'm pretty much a "nubie" to guitar, so I'm hoping to pick up a lot of things just by watching up close around the campfires.

Anyone going to Magnoliafest - please stop by one of the side stages and say hello to Ray Robinette and Tom Ellis, from Don. They usually run the sound.

I didn't know that a lot of people go to that from out of state. Is that what you mean by no overlap? You don't know many Floridians who go? I hear lots of folks talking about it every year. I myself, even living this close - have never made it ... I knew it was popular but always assumed it drew mostly locals. Never thought about people flying in from out of state for it ...

No, I know TONS of FL people that do MagFest... what I meant was, almost nobody that is a member of AGF goes :) (note my comment re: demographics...)
& yes, there's people that fly in / drive from several states away; I have several friends that do this as well. I've talked to the artists, & they say the Magnolia events, and Strawberry fest out in CA are their favorites. It's definitely a beautiful setting, intimate, and a very nice vibe. People that frequent festivals hear about that sort of thing by word-of-mouth, and so that affects what fests they go to. While other fests may have similar lineups, not all are alike ;)

I was just very impressed with the movie; and I like the fact that I (as a new guitar player) can sit back and watch and learn, and ask questions if I need to. Plus, the atmosphere looks very laid back but with a musical intensity that I appreciate.
I'm coming from Arizona.
