Only a few weeks away! Time for a little more coordinating, planning and communications. Going to model the 'event' after the previously held events that by all accounts were very successful. The location is Chevy Chase, Md. about 10-blocks from Chevy Chase Circle. Friendship Heights metro is about a 20-35 minute walk.

Going to set the time at 12-5. That has been done before and worked out well. If there is reason to modify that a little, please contact me and we can talk about it.

There should be plenty of room for everyone - especially if the weather is nice and we can use the back porch, patio and yard too. Even if the weather keeps us inside, we have a large room that we can use to show/display instruments, play, and congregate in. We can also use the living room and the mostly finished basement as alternative rooms to play in. The dining room will be available too but it is pretty much too crowded with furniture for playing in.

I have very little in the way of electronic equipment to offer up. A little Crate practice amp (not an acoustic). Have no microphones or recording equipment either. If we want/need those sort of items, they will need to be brought in. Guitar stands will come in handy too so everyones equipment can be displayed for all to see. I have 2 stands for the cause.

Will provide some food and beverages. I enjoy doing that and it is not an imposition. Probably make a chile and put out chips, dips, cruditees and such.

Agenda - Do we need or want one? Would people like to commit to playing, teaching something in a workshop setting, talk or discuss a subject they are interested in or particularly knowledgeable about? I am happy have a plan or no plan.

If I didn't mention it in the previous thread on this gathering, I have 3 cats. They will be away and out of site, but if you have allergies, precautions should be taken.

My only request is that folks do your best to let me know if you are planning on coming as soon as you can. We will do directions and address parking, etc. via email or PMs.

If you have any suggestions at all of how to make this the best afternoon possible, please let me know. Look forward to it myself.

hope you can make it! loads of personal issues and family matters have negatively impacted communications the last months. it is passing. my renewing of guitar lessons and hosting this event hopefully say so. yesterday I spoke with Steve who hosted a prevous event. he is very enthusiastic. have invited a couple of friends besides the forum and am thinking of extending invitations to locals of the Larrivee Forum and the Acoustic Guitar Player Forum as well. all have the same basic interests.

in addition to the 15th, if you are at all interested in getting together to play again, send me a note and we can see what we can work out.

As I mentioned in the post to George I probably could have put in a PM, thinking of taking the liberty of inviting a few folks from other forums and a couple of friends/neighbors who play. Hope that is ok with everyone. If anyone would rather we limited invites to this forum, please let me know this evening. Otherwise, I will send out notes to them tomorrow so they have time to plan for themselves.

A little bump... There has to be more people in the area that would like to get-together :guitar:

So far it looks like 5 from the forum think they are definite and about 8 say definite maybe. My guitar teacher is a probable. This evening I invited folks from a couple of other guitar forums I participate in to join in the festivities as well. Long range weather forecasts on the net suggest there is a very low likelihood of rain that weekend and the temps will be in the high 70s or low 80s! What more can we ask for?

Jeff:

I'd like to put in a tentative yes. Since the first discussions of the gathering I have developed a back issue that will require surgery. The initial impression of the procedure is that it is out patient with minimal recovery time. If that is not true, I may not be able to make it.

Thanks for being the gracious host!

My personal email is mikelhenry@yahoo.com if it is not already in my signature.

thanks for the note. hope you have the outpatient option and it works 100% - and you can make it (not the most important). good luck with it.

Thanks Jeff. Met with a surgeon Friday, one my Chiropractor prefers, but only takes easy stuff. He felt I should look into fusion of some vertebrae which is a direction I don't want to go. I'm on vacation until Saturday, with the sincere hope that lots of rest and low stress will help. Seems to be. Today I went without Ibuprofen until about 5:30 which is the first time in a month.

I'll get a second opinion after I get back, but if things keep improving like they are, I may have to find a less stressful job.

Still looking forward to the get together, although I may sit a lot while playing.

Eric

good news!

the current tally looks like this:
8 "confirmed"
5 expressed interest but unsure of schedule
5 invited

certainly this will change, but given the "end of vacation season", this looks like a good start with 11 days to go. just to reiterate, history of the gatherings is that all skill levels are welcome, there is no pressure on anyone to play, and that we can handle about 30-35 (although I don't think it will be so easy to display all the guitars at one time). will send out address, phone number, etc by this weekend.

Thanks for the invitation Jeff. I'm jammed up that day but I'm going to try hard to join in. Apologies for not being more definitive.

scheduling is tough on the weekend with so many good tings out there to do. don't know that anyone or anyone has to commit to 5 hours. if you can come by for a little while, meet some people and introduce yourself, ...

thanks for the note and hope you can make it for a little while.

I'll be coming too. I may even bring a guitar or two this time depending on how I feel. All I need are directions coming from NOVA.

Jeff,

I'm a neighbor of yours (Chevy Chase). Not a frequent poster here (or on any other forum, for that matter). I would like to attend. I can help with some items -- amp, pa, etc., if you need them. How should I contact you about details?

Send me directions as well. Back from a week at the beach and feeling much better. As long as work doesn't knock me back this week, I'll be there.

Directions, telephone #s, and email addresses have gone out to those who have said they are coming. To date, there are 11 booked. Will know for sure about my teacher Tom Espinola on Wednesday when I go for a lesson. Four more from this forum said maybe if their schedule permits, and I am expecting my neighbor who is a really good singer-songwriter, and my nephews who just played their 3rd date at Bangkok Blues. Could be as many as 20. Plenty of room. Just checked weather.com for the 10-day and it says 77 degrees. Plenty of room for those on the fence and those just noticing this thread. Want to note that including me, there are about 4 who (modestly) claim to be of beginner/perpetual beginner level. Therefore, those other beginners should see that all levels are welcome. If someone did not get directions and contact info, please let me know. Trying to keep up with my list(s) and juggle my message box so nothing bounces.

Wednesday evening and after a couple of emails and telephone conversations, the tally looks like 14 are planning on being here and 6 more are still in the definite maybe column. Judging by the conversations I have had so far, its a good group of people coming and Saturday promises to be a great day. Couple days left for anyone else to juggle their schedule and commitments. A review of the by-laws confirms that people don't have to be on time or stay til the end for these forum gatherings.

For counting purposes, I will be there, but no guest. His honeydo list was to long.

Hi Jeff et al,

Would love to be there but not sure if I can go. Just came back from my vacation in Canada so it will be a hectic weekend for me. But Jeff, please pm me your address- (no need for directions as I have a GPS) just in case I'm able to go. Thanks.
