If anybody is in the vicinity of Sevierville TN this weekend, there is a bluegrass festival with a good lineup. I'll be there on Friday to compete in the guitar contest. This will be a tough one, I know some of the competitors that will be there and they're good. If I make it through to the second round (finals) I'll be there on Saturday for those. Make sure to come by and say hi. The link to the festival is http://www.bluegrassinthesmokies.com/ and be sure to check out the prizes for the contest.;)

Thanks Allen, now I can complain about two things I'll be missing this weekend. This and the Charlotte guitar show.
Good luck in the contest. Wish I could be there.

Woo hoo! Sounds like all the contestants had to brave some pretty intense heat, nevermind the competition from each other! Allen's bringing home a new Bourgeois "Country Boy" model, so if you're looking for one he'd be the man to PM right about now.
Rick, sorry to hear you can't make the show up here this year. We ate at Texas Land & Cattle co. the other night, and thought of you. You were the first person to tell us about that place, and we don't go often because it's a ways off, but for a good steak around here, you just can't beat it. I can't believe Morton's of Ruth's Chris would be any better, esp. considering what they charge! Here's to getting together sometime soon, maybe. You'll have to bug Allen to let you try the Henderson. ;)

Lauren, I have already put that bug in him about the Henderson. LOL
Let's just say that got mentioned more than once in our last two phone conversations. That is a high light I don't want to miss out on.
We talked a bit about getting together, and that's something else we HAVE to do soon. Sorry I didn't make it this year, too much going on too close together for me right now.
But now next year lets just say I will have a LOT more free time on my hands.

Thanks ya'll. RickS, I hate that you're missing both. I'm actually getting to go to both.:D With a new guitar to show as well. I'll say hello to Big Orange while I'm there. I got the new guitar home last night and got to sit down with it for a little while. My streak continues for winning very good guitars. At some point I almost wish I was winning bad sounding ones- it would make it easier to part with them. This one is a strong one though, just as the last few have been.

Very nice Allen.
Maybe someone at the show will want to take it off your hands.
Did you figure out if it's Sitka or Adi?
Say HI to Dennis for me. Play a song or two there and help sell yours and a couple of mine. Sure wish I could be there. Next time !

Congrats, Allen! Steve and I may be playing at Walnut Valley (but I'm DEFINITELY not entering any of the contests) next year--one of the festival committee members saw us Fri. night and was impressed , so I look forward to jamming and seeing which guitar you get to add to your growing arsenal. I was playing in Little Rock and buying dulcimers in Mt. View, and when I mentioned I knew you, folks in the "right places" had nothing but glowing words to say about you. I feel honored to, very soon, be able to say "I knew you when."
Post a YouTube clip of your winning Smokies performance, please! Always a pleasure to see and hear you.

Congrats Allen. I saw your post on the UMGF saying you were going to the Charlotte show today with a GS and Country Boy. I figured the Country Boy was the one from this contest. I went to the Charlotte show yesterday. It was pretty crowded but there was alot of nice stuff there. I just don't need to be around all those guitars. A 1955 D-18 followed me home. I don't know how it got into my truck. I also don't know what happend to the "lunch" money I took with me .

Rick, it is sitka, mahogany back and sides. I played a lick on your `18 at the show today.
Sandy, I don't have any recording of the contest or I'd be glad to post it. I can't imagine who you were talking to in Ark, but I must not owe them any money! lol.
Woody, you didn't pick up that 18 from Gary Burnette did you? He told me that he had moved a number of 18's this weekend. I hope to get to hear it one day.

No I didn't get it from Gary. He had some nice ones, but they were a little out of my "lunch money" range. I can't remember the guys name I got mine from. I should have got one of his cards. He had a bunch of banjo's and fiddles. He also had a nice 1940 something D18, a rough 1960 something D35 and a new or like new Lester Flat Martin. Mine's going to need a neck re-set soon, but it's in pretty good shape for it's age otherwise. The action at the 12th fret low E is .125" There's approx .120 saddle left, but I don't want to sand over half of the original glued in saddle off to postpone a neck re set for another year or 2. I've done a neck re-set, on an old Sigma, but I'm not sure if I want to try this one or not. I might be better getting a guitar tech, instead of an auto tech(me) to repair this guitar.:D:D:D It's playable, so I'm going to play it for a while before I do anything.
Did you sell your GS and/or the Country boy?
Pistolero

No, I didn't sell them. I had asking prices posted on them with a little wiggle room, but had a couple of really low ball offers from dealers. I don't exactly have to sell them yet, you know?

So what did you think of the 000 18 Allen?
That low ball thing is about to drive me crazy, had a call from Dennis yesterday, somebody trying to really low ball the Mah. LJ, and I won't go there.

Well, you sure must be good! I look forward to hearing you play sometime. Congrats. While you surely must deserve winning multiple fine guitars - it does make a few of us green with envy! Re; winning lesser guitars so you could stand to part with them - I have a better idea. How about a contest sometime for the person who plays the guitar the worst - and give some poor bloke with no skills some kind of awesome axe .... YEAH!
Then again, I guess you wouldn't know who was faking it and who was truly bad. Ha ha. Not everyone can play guitar or sing well, but everyone (and I mean everyone) is capable of doing it badly ...

Lauren played it actually, not me. She just doesn't like the v-neck. It sounded good though. If it had the low profile neck like the D42 I would have bought it.
Btw- you need to call Dennis.

HUM, that almost makes me worry with that strange looking face there.
Guess I better try and raise him tonight huh.
Oh, and if you or Lauren had wanted that 000, that could have been arranged real easy.
