Next Friday, Andina & Rich (my Madison-based singing partner Stephen Lee Rich and I) will be traveling down to the ACOUSTIC SOUNDS CAFE (Arkansas' premier indoor acoustic music venue) to open for legendary singer-songwriter Michael "No W" Smith ("The Dutchman," "Spoon River," "Sister Clarissa," "The Ballad of Dan Moody," etc.) . The show will be recorded for later broadcast on KUAR-FM, Arkansas Public Radio and NPR.
The Cafe is located in Second Presbyterian Church, 600 Pleasant Valley Dr., Little Rock. Doors open 7 pm., showtime is 7:30 pm. Sugg. donation $10 ($8 students, seniors, and military).
Host Joe Henry describes this as an "evening of incredible talent," calling us "a colorful, fast-paced and wildly amusing Chicago folk duo. Will leave you wanting a lot more."
Those of you who've seen me solo or in SASS!, be prepared for something quite different: more comedy, more eclectic (we have cover tunes and we're not afraid to use 'em) and much more of a country/Americana/vaudeville feel. And a heck of a lot more guitar duets, besides vocal harmony and counterpoint. (And if you're planning to attend FARM in Techny, IL next month, Steve will be a juried showcaser).
If you've never seen Michael Smith, you're in for a treat--one of America's most illustrious songwriters, who easily straddles folk, country, rock and even jazz and swing.
Coffee, tea and light refreshments available.
