I got my TaylorStock 355c-LTD this morning, and I am one Very Happy Camper! It's everything I hoped for, with a rich tone, excellent balance and a great 12-string shimmer, and it plays like a dream right out of the box. It's a little tight, but I expected that with a Sitka top, and I'm sure it will bloom beautifully over the coming months.
I've been trying to come up with a good visual description, but I'll let you do that yourself. I have pictures up at:
http://www.cpmusic.com/taylorstock/cpmusic-ts.html
There are thumbnails on this page that link to larger pictures. I apologize for my lack of picture-taking skills, but pictures are pictures. (Hey Rick, howdja like to come to California again? :) )
One extra added attraction on this guitar is an honest-to-goodness maple neck. I don't remember seeing this in the specs, and at first I thought it was just very light mahogany with stain, but on close inspection, it's too light for mahogany and the grain is all wrong.
The only thing left to do now (besides playing it, of course!) is to put on the gold tuners and ebony buttons that arrived yesterday, and maybe swap out the bridge pins for a set with pearl dots. Oh well, one thing at a time.
Thanks for looking!

Congratulations Chris. Some real beautiful maple. I remember the first day of TS you mentioned you weren't going to order a guitar. I bet you're glad you changed your mind.

Wow Chris,
Sorry it turned out so bad! I'll trade you for a nice Seagull 12 with cedar top.;)
She's beautiful! Congrates and I'm glad you are thrilled.
Does she go camping?
PS For those that did not get the inside joke, I bought a Seagull 12 string from Chris a few months ago.

Put LKSM strings on it. Then it will sound like thunder. :)

No problem, Tim. Steal away!
Congrats Chris, it's a beauty! The quliting on the back looks like a waterfall coming down, and that top is su-weet.
I know you are thrilled with it. Here's hoping you'll enjoy every note on it as it opens up.

Hey Chris, is that the brown "koa-like" stain from the fall LTDs or did you order it in amber like the std 655??
Looks great! GOTTA be the best 355 ever made!

Thanks, folks! I pause every time I open the case and just stare at the top for a few seconds before I take it out. I still can't believe what an incredible piece of wood Bob chose for it. And then I stare some more at the maple. Since some of the maple chosen at TS was so absolutely incredible, I had it in my mind that mine was kind of plain, but it's a lot prettier than I remembered.
I've been noodling around with a bunch of songs since I got it yesterday and loving every minute of it. It just sings, you know? First songs: "Mr. Tambourine Man" (Byrds style), "California Dreamin'," and "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away." This flu has my voice on the fritz, but I'm listening more to the guitar anyway.
Joe, that stain is standard for this year's 300-LTD, but in a little switcheroo, they didn't write "LTD" on my label, which I think makes it a little more special. I believe it's the only jumbo built to those specs. I don't know if the specs include a maple neck, but you can bet that I'll be on the lookout to see.
BTW, I've already swapped out the chrome Grovers for gold ones with ebony buttons, and they really help finish the overall look. (Lisa, don't wait, you'll love gold hardware on your 414!) All I need now are some gold screws for the TRC and a gold strap button for the neck. And maybe some pearl-dot bridge pins. And maybe....nah, that'll be plenty!

Chris, this is a really beautiful guitar! I've seen 6xx series guitars that didn't have figuring that nice. I really like the golden finish! I'd love to see a picture of the gold tuners on the guitar.

FYI: I've updated the page with new pictures since installing the gold Grovers. I'm afraid my picture-taking skills haven't improved since Saturday, though. :)

Chris she's really purdy, huh. Wow that turned out so nice. How does she sound? Arn't you glad you had that little chat with yourself that Sunday morning on the drive in? Well worth it. ENJOY!
